Show Notes

Join Allen Roberds for a reflection on Day 37, delving into 1 Nephi 22:2, where Nephi explains that the Spirit makes all things known to prophets. This episode connects ancient prophetic revelation with modern-day guidance from living prophets like President Russell M. Nelson, emphasizing the consistent role of the Spirit in revealing divine truths.

Key Points

  • Nephi clarifies to his brothers in 1 Nephi 22:2 that prophets receive knowledge of future events through the voice of the Spirit.
  • The episode highlights the timeless principle that all things are revealed to prophets by the Spirit, enabling them to lead and guide God's children.
  • Allen Roberds shares his conviction that living prophets, such as President Russell M. Nelson, are guided by the same Spirit as ancient prophets like Isaiah and Nephi.
  • A personal testimony underscores President Nelson's 'Think Celestial' talk and the announcement of a temple in Mongolia, affirming the personal and powerful nature of modern prophetic revelation.

I cried, and my companions, many of the elders and sisters that came with me, we were texting each other as we heard from President Nelson make that announcement about the temple. It came with such a sweet spirit in my life, a personal spirit, and a personal testimony that the man that was speaking and announcing these temples was the man that speaks for the Lord on the earth today.

In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life, and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.

Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me, and know that I am cheering for your every success. Welcome to Day 37 on our journey.

And let's do a little celebration here. If you're doing the readings today on Day 37, you have completed 10% of the Book of Mormon. Well done.

Good job taking the small and simple things and going through that on a daily basis. So if you are following along on the 365-day journey in reading the Book of Mormon with me, you're going to read 1 Nephi 22:1-11. And yes, this is the beginning of the end of 1 Nephi.

This is the last chapter. We're going to dive in today to verse 2 inside of chapter 22. And this is Nephi actually responding to a question from his brothers.

So take a second and read verse 1 to see that. They're basically asking, "Hey, the stuff of Isaiah here, is it spiritual, or is it like of the flesh of the world?" What are the things Isaiah is talking about? And this is Nephi's response here in verse 2.

He says, "And I, Nephi, said unto them, Behold, they were manifest unto the prophet by the voice of the Spirit. For by the Spirit are all things made known unto the prophets, which shall come upon the children of men according to the flesh." Now this is only part of his answer, so you're going to want to keep reading inside of chapter 22 here a little more. But I wanted to dive into this.

I love this one because I think this speaks volumes about how Nephi understood the prophets worked. And I love the part that he talks about here, that by the Spirit are all things made known unto the prophets. Isaiah spoke directly to Nephi for his time, and Nephi makes it very clear.

He loved reading the words of Isaiah, and he understood them so plainly. And I love that we have prophets today that lead us and guide us, and that those prophets experience the same things. I believe that.

I believe that our living prophet today, according to the timing of this recording of this podcast, is President Russell M. Nelson. I believe him to be a prophet today every bit as much as Isaiah the prophet, and I believe the things that he receives and the guidance that he gives us are received by the Spirit.

Most recently, in the last general conference from the recording of this podcast, he talked to us about "thinking celestial" and taking a celestial point of view in our lives. And he also did something that I found particularly special inside of that "think celestial" talk. He announced 20 new temples being built across the world, and one of them was particularly special to me because he announced the building of a temple in Mongolia.

Now, if you've listened at all to the podcast, you know that Mongolia is where I've served my mission when I was a missionary, and I have a very, very incredibly tight bonding spot in my heart for the people of Mongolia.

I am so grateful that we have living prophets today, that just as Nephi has left us here, that are guided by the Spirit in all things and can make all things known unto the prophets, which will come to pass for us, that if we turn to our living prophet, we can regularly find the counsel the Lord would have us understand in our lives today. That's all for today. Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass.

Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow. Hope you are too.
