Day 33 Including the Lord in Your Covenants
Full Transcript
In Matthew 5.13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.
Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I am cheering for your every success. Welcome to day 33.
We're going to pause today a little bit on the promised land part of things. Nephi is going to arrive at the promised land and then he's going to dive into his testimony of Jesus Christ a little bit more and do some prophesying. So if you're following me on the 365 day journey, you're going to read 1 Nephi chapter 19 verses 1 through 13 today.
Nephi is going to explain a little bit about the plates and a little bit about what he's putting on the plates. So you'll want to dive into that and a little nod to, I think it's verse 3. He uses the term plain and precious which is interesting because that some things that were lost from our past chapters we talked about Today verse is going to come from verse 7 and I want to dive into that and then share a little thought with you on that.
He's talking about the things that he's writing and the challenges he faces sometimes with his own weakness in writing as he's trying to do the will of the Lord. But he says this in verse 7, For the things which some men esteem to be of great worth, Names from the Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price, Salmah, Melchizedek, Joseph M. Nelson, Dallin H.
R. Holland, Joseph M. Nelson, Dallin H.

Names from the Bible, Book of Mormon, Dieter F. Uchtdorf. Jeffrey R Holland Russell M Nelson Dallin H Oaks Henry B Eyring Dieter F Oaks Henry M Nelson Dallin H Oaks Henry B Eyring Dieter F And you be you you good enough you you you you you authentic you once you find yourself And I think it really interesting in there that most of those at least many of those seem to drive entirely focused on you And they leave out the component that our Heavenly Father knows you, that He wants to help you be the best version of you as well.
And it got me thinking about a specific time in my life where I was reminded that God plays a part and a role in my life. When my wife and I were getting married, we got sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. And when we were getting married, you know, the sealer, if you've been to a wedding, if you haven't, this is kind of what happens.
But the sealer tends to kind of give a little bit of marriage advice as you're getting sealed to be married together for time and all eternity. And he said something that has just stuck with me and it kind of came around to these thoughts today in terms of finding yourself and being you versus including the Lord in that journey of finding yourself. He said, I want to emphasize to you guys that this covenant that you're making is not just between Allen and Brian.
This covenant that you're making is Allen, Brian, and the Lord. If you will include the Lord in your marriage you will find the answers that you need at the time you need them And I can tell you that that is so true When my wife and I include Heavenly Father in our marriage our marriage is better And not that things go bad and awful right It just it works The Lord leads our family And if we will turn to Him and not set Him at naught if we don push Him aside if we don see Him as useless if we don take the counsel as no thank you I don want that right now We have found times in our lives where we've had the answers that we've needed. We've had the conditions and circumstances in our lives that we've needed to be blessed.
And that's because we have sought to have God as a partner in our relationship. And I'd encourage you to do as well so that you don't live out what Nephi is seeing here where others trample under their feet and set at naught the things of God. That's all I have for today, my friends.
Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass. Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow. I hope you are too.
