In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.
Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I am cheering for your every success. Welcome to day 17, the beginning of an incredible set of chapters as Nephi seeks to understand things that his dad knows, these mysteries of God, as he references.
Nephi has an opportunity to see the life of Christ and through the life of Christ better understand the different aspects and symbols that Lehi explains from his vision back in 1 Nephi 8. So the verse that we have today was really hard to pick this one because there's so much in here. You're really going to enjoy the reading today.
But I settled on verse 31. Verse 31 says: 'And he spake unto me again'—this is the angel speaking to Nephi—'saying, Look, and I looked, and I beheld the Lamb of God going forth among the children of men.' And I beheld multitudes of people who were sick, and who were afflicted with all manner of diseases, and with devils. The angels spake and showed all these things unto me, and they were healed by the power of the Lamb of God.
And the devils and the unclean spirits were cast out. Now this one's kind of a heavy one. There's a lot of pain and suffering and sickness going on.
There's devils and unclean spirits happening here. You might be wondering, what are you doing, Allen? Why you pick this one?
And yet I settled on this one because this one for me talks more specifically and more directly about Christ's role as our Savior than I believe others do. In fact, if I were to try and pick all the different roles and all the different things we talk about Jesus Christ and what he is and what he does for me, I think I would whittle it down to one concept. Jesus Christ heals.
He heals pain. He heals suffering. He heals sickness.
He heals evil. He heals sin. He heals sadness.
I can remember a time in Mongolia as my companion and I were teaching one gentleman. He was getting to the stage where he was really interested in being baptized and accepting the Savior in his life. And he opened up to us one night and talked about, through his understanding of Jesus Christ, he too could be healed from these things.
And he got very emotional about it. We knew that these things were heavy enough that we needed to actually talk to our Mission President and we shared with him the things that were shared. The man and the Mission President met together and ultimately the decision for him to be baptized needed to come all the way to the administrative level of the church in the headquarters here in Salt Lake City, Utah.
But I have experienced in my life the healing power of Jesus Christ and would encourage you to do so as well. Reach out to him and find healing in the pain, suffering, sickness, sorrow, sadness, whatever it is you may be experiencing. Jesus Christ is here to heal.
That's all I have for today. Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass. Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt.
I'll be here tomorrow. I hope you are too.
