Show Notes

Allen Roberds reflects on Isaiah 50:7, "The Lord God Will Help Me," exploring how unwavering confidence in God's assistance empowers us to set our face like a flint against challenges and avoid confusion or shame. This episode connects ancient scripture to modern spiritual resilience and the teachings of prophets, encouraging steadfast faith.

Key Points

  • Isaiah 50:7 reveals the profound confidence in God's help, stating, "For the Lord God will help me, therefore shall I not be confounded."
  • Understanding that God will help us empowers believers to "set our face like a flint," meaning to stand firm and make steadfast decisions in advance.
  • This divine assurance ensures that we will not be ashamed, even when facing opposition or societal reactions to spiritual truths.
  • The principle of trusting divinely called leaders, such as those speaking at General Conference, mirrors this confidence, allowing us to receive their words without confusion or shame.

My friends, if we can keep the confidence in the Lord to be here to help us—and He absolutely will be here to help us—It sets a position for us to be able to go forward and set our face like a flint as well.

In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.

Hello, my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.

I know that I've designed Savory Salt for kind of an evergreen listen anytime, but as of this recording, General Conference has been complete this weekend. Thank you for watching. The focus of this podcast is on Jesus Christ.

The title in Come Follow Me "He Hath Born Our Griefs and Carried Our Sorrows." This is a part of Isaiah's readings that's going to dive into more of the role of Jesus Christ in His Atonement. And so I'm excited for the week ahead there. I wanted to start off this week in Isaiah chapter 50, knowing again the context of General Conference having just happened as of this recording at least.

There's a verse here that just... it always catches me, it catches me whenever I whenever I read through these Isaiah chapters, whether it's through 2 Nephi or whether it's through these ones here. And so I wanted to share it and kind of capture it. Isaiah chapter 50, verse 7 is our verse for today.

For the Lord God will help me, therefore shall I not be confounded. Therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed. Now there's probably that phrase in there that you're not familiar with.

It's a tough one. It's not a phrase that we would use today in modern colloquial language. The Bible says, "Look at the other pieces that are at play.

Because the Lord God will help me, therefore shall I not be confounded. I've set my face like a flint. I know that I shall not be ashamed." My friends, if we can keep the confidence in the Lord to be here to help us—and He absolutely will be here to help us—It sets a position for us to be able to go forward and set our face like a flint as well.

Well, we can make the decisions in advance. I love how over the weekend it's been interesting to see, as apostles and prophets have spoken on certain topics, what reactions are like, right? Whether that's through social media or internal family reactions or whatever it may be.

And it's always interesting through General Conference times because people are always looking for the theme that's going to be said or the theme that's going to come across all the talks. And what I love with this is, if you go in and look, you can go into General Conference saying, "I already know that these leaders, these men and women that have been called, are called of God. Therefore, I'm not going to be confounded on what they say. Therefore, I'm not going to be ashamed about what they say." We will be here tomorrow, and we hope you are too.
