In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.
Hello, my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.
Have you ever watched someone be converted into the Church and be baptized? Or perhaps can you remember that day yourself? When they come out of the water, when they receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, you can just see the smile emanating not just from their face, from like their whole body.
That's an experience that I believe we capture here inside of our verse for today in Isaiah. As we wrap up our reading this week with Isaiah 13 through 35, we're going to go to the very last verse of our reading for the week as our verse for today. In Isaiah 35, as Isaiah talks about the day of restoration and what it's going to be like having the Lord over his people again, we get to this verse in Isaiah 35, verse 10: "And the ransomed of the Lord shall return and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads.
They shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away." Man, can you just close your eyes for a second and picture what that feels like? Let's just sing together. Now as I kind of got into this verse and I wanted to kind of see what else had been said about it, I came across a power talk for me.
This one's going to go on to my power talk playlist that I've talked about in the Gospel Library app. This is from Neal A. Maxwell from 1980.
It's called "The Net Gathers of Every Kind." It's kind of a fascinating read because when you go back to 1980 and what the makeup of the Let us participate in the rigorous calisthenics of daily improvement and not just in the classroom rhetoric of eternal progression. Let all gospel instruction in the home or classroom be a genuine, Everyone experience in learning, not merely doctrinal ping pong. Let us all understand too that those very doctrines and duties which may seem the most puzzling or the least attractive may well be those we now most need.
My friends, as I read through this talk and I thought about the reference that he talks about inside the talk, which is verse 10 here, I think about those of us that are ransomed of the Lord across the world. Some of us are coming from difficult circumstances. Some of us are coming from highly blessed circumstances.
And yet, as we, "the sorrow and the sighing shall flee away." The negativity, let it be gone. My friends, I hope that you and I have an opportunity to be part of the casting of the net of the Lord, to invite others into our lives, to see the growth that happens daily as we study and learn inside of our scriptures together. I am grateful for this opportunity to see it grow around the world.
Thank you for the opportunities that I've had to travel around the world and see the Church grow. It's an amazing experience and so great to be part of as we continue this journey together. That is all for today, my friends.
You and I have come here for such a time as this. Step forward in faith and let's be Savory Salt. We will be here tomorrow and we hope you are too.
