3.246 Our Greatest Teammate

In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.

Hello my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.

I want you to picture someone for me. The best teammate you've ever had. If you're having a hard time with that one, think of the best coach or mentor you've ever had.

What was it about that individual that just made you want to be part of the team? That's what's got me stewing inside of today's episode as we read Psalms 102 through 150 this week. I'm so excited.

I just got to say it again. I said it earlier in the week. For those of you that are just jumping on to Savory Salt for the first time, we've had a massive incoming of new listeners and so I want to give you a welcome wherever you're listening.

Thank you for joining Savory Salt and hopefully you find community here of people that are trying to take every day an opportunity to step closer to our Savior Jesus Christ and in effect be better and more savory salt here on the earth. Now let's talk about these teammates, these coaches, these mentors. What is it about them?

Our verse for today comes out of Psalm 118. It is considered a messianic Psalm, right? This reference to Jesus Christ.

And so inside of it, we're going to take a look here at 118 verse 6. It says this: The Lord is on my side. I will not fear.

What can man do unto me? I love the confidence inside of this verse. But even aside from the confidence, it comes because the Lord is on my side.

Now, how in the world do we get the Lord on our side? Well, we've talked about this often, but our covenants absolutely take us out of neutral ground, as President Nelson and others have taught. When we make covenants with the Lord and when we follow his commandments, we, in effect, choose a side to play on, just like happens in playgrounds across the world when teams decide who's going to play on what team.

So this verse has me thinking about this. The greatest teammates I've ever had make me want to be a better teammate. They make me want to step into the game and do the best I possibly can.

Give all of my effort. The best coaches and mentors that I've had give me direction and guidance and they have insight for me that's outside the game I'm playing. They're just trying to help me be a better human being and a better individual.

If the Lord is on your side and that's what it feels like to have an amazing teammate, the greatest teammate you can possibly have, what does it inspire you to be when it comes to the places you are a teammate? Whether that's a teammate in your own family, a teammate amongst your friends, your classes, your places of employment, whatever it may be, because the Lord is such an amazing teammate, what kind of teammate does it make you as well as a follower of Jesus Christ? I think that's the power that comes into the message today for me.

The Lord is on my side. I don't have to fear. What can man possibly do to me?

Nothing. All things turn out good for those on the Lord's side. So my friends, take an opportunity today.

Take some lessons from the greatest teammate in the world. Take some lessons from the greatest mentor and coach of the world, our Savior Jesus Christ, and see how he can help you increase your own teammate, mentor, and coaching skills as well. That is all for today my friends.
