3.243 Incline Thine Ear Unto Me

In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.

Hello, my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.

Today I open with the story first, rather than our verse for today, because I feel like telling the story first kind of leads into my personal witness of the verse we're going to get into. We are starting a new week here, and we're getting to the tail end of Psalms here as we read Psalms 102 and 103, 110, 116 through 119, 127 through 128, 135 through 139, and 146 through 150. That's the last time I'll say that.

From now on, it's Psalm 102 to 150. Deal? Awesome.

I want to back up for just a little bit in time. We used to live in Houston, Texas. I was a teacher at the time.

My oldest was just a little girl, as we had just moved to Texas when she was about six months old. So at this stage, she was a couple years old, a little one running around the house. I had just received an award for the state of Texas as a social studies teacher.

So I'd received this new teacher of the year award. Was it within my first three years of teaching there? And the expectation was that we go to El Paso, Texas, to receive that award.

And I had no idea how we were going to get to El Paso. The more I learned about it, Houston to El Paso is the same distance as El Paso to Los Angeles, California. So it's like a 13 and a half hour drive if you drive it.

So that was not really an option for us as a family. I felt and could almost see in my mind's eye an image of the Lord turning to listen to this small child give her prayer. Inside of that prayer, she asked that we would be able to find airplane tickets that we could afford to fly out to El Paso.

I knew the Lord had heard her prayer. Now, pause there for just a second, and I want to go over into Psalm 102, a psalm that is full of anxiety and pressure, someone who's afflicted and asking for the Lord. Psalm 102, verse 2 says this: "Hide not thy face from me in the day when I am in trouble.

Incline thine ear unto me. In the day when I call, answer me speedily." Don't we all feel that way sometimes when we're asking for help from the Lord? We need that help right now.

We're asking for help in this moment. And I can testify that there have been times, that's one of the most distinct that I like to share. I've had others with other children of mine that I don't share as often.

They're a little bit more private. But I distinctly know that the Lord does incline His ear unto us as we turn to Him in our troubles. I have felt it; I have experienced it.

And yes, to come back to the full story, within the week of that prayer, for whatever reason, we came across a sale and were able to get very, very discounted tickets from Houston to El Paso. Thank you for watching. You and I have come here for such a time as this.
