3.237 What I Want to Leave Behind

In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.

Hello my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.

Let's start with a heading, shall we? Does that count as a verse? I don't think it counts as a verse.

Have we ever done a heading before? We may have, but let's not count it as a verse, shall we? We are.

We are reading basically Psalms 49 through 86. I'm not going to go through the full list here. I did that yesterday and it's lengthy.

But instead what I wanted to do is Psalm 49. I really feel like I should capture this one for me and for my family, but I don't know how to do it in one verse. So let's get the context here by looking at this heading and then hopefully I can wrap this together into a thought that brings the Spirit into your life today.

The Psalm 49 heading says this: Men cannot be ransomed or redeemed by wealth. God alone can redeem a soul from the grave. The glory of a rich man ceases with his death.

Wise men die; likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others. Now, where are we going with this? My friends, professionally in my life, I have worked with many individuals and couples, many business owners who have collected a large sum of money.

I've seen these people with money and land and houses and trailers and all the other things and they're worried about passing them all on. Do you know what they realize they want to pass on the most? They hope at the end of the day that they pass on love.

That they pass on relationships. They hope at the end of the day that they pass on their testimony of Jesus Christ. And for many of them that I worked with at that time, many of their own children and grandchildren had long lost any sort of message because their pursuit had been so focused on the accumulation of things and places and money.

My friends, part of Savory Salt for me has been a location where I feel like I can come and bear testimony of Jesus Christ, of His doctrine, of His gospel, that I can share a piece of my thought processes with anyone that will listen. But first and foremost, I hope that what I'm gathering here is a place where my own posterity can come and listen. That they can know what Allen Roberds truly believed in: Jesus Christ is real.

Heavenly Father is our true spiritual Father. He loves us. We are His children.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ has been restored on the earth today. The Book of Mormon is real. It testifies of Christ.

These are real people who lived and had wonderful spiritual experiences that they testified of as well. My friends, I hope at the end of the day that the thing that is most important for me to pass on to my family as I pass away is a testimony of Jesus Christ. That weighs way more to me than any dollar amount I could possibly give my children going forward.

And I'm grateful for Psalm 49 for sharing that testimony as well. That's all for today my friends. You and I have come here for such a time as this.
