3.227 When He Hath Tried Me

In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.

Hello, my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.

What is to come of us through all of these challenges that we face in mortality? What's the end result? Is it simply to pass a test?

Those are the words that kind of reflect in my mind as I read through the book of Job, as he certainly went through the challenges. How is the book of Job? How's Job working for you?

How's poetry in Old Testament times working in your life? I hope that whether you can find the poetic aspects of it, that you're finding the little golden nuggets inside of there. And yes, I'm using that on purpose.

As we get into our verse for today, I came across this section in Job 23. I wanted to share it with you. This is actually a series of verses.

We're just going to pick one of them, as is tradition here with Savory Salt. Job 23, he's kind of identifying this, like his own path that he'd gone through, and how he tried to stay with the Lord and where he tried to see the Lord. And really, the verses I'm talking about are kind of 8 through 12 of sorts.

But our verse for today we're going to land on, Job 23, Verse 10 says, But he knoweth the way that I take. When he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. Now that's an interesting perspective to hold when you're going through challenges.

Can you keep the mindset that this challenge, if I go through this, the path and the way the Lord has hoped that I go through this, that I shall come forth as gold? And I actually landed on one. It's not my experience to share necessarily, but it's one that I think many listeners here may resonate with, and one that my family certainly has.

I thought of my wife years ago now going through each of her pregnancies. We have four girls, I've talked about them. They're amazing and they are certainly gold in my life and my wife's life as well.

And so that gold didn't come without challenge. All the way up through the blessing and miracle of childbirth is challenge and pain and struggle. And yet, on the backside of that is absolute gold as the child comes to earth, and as you get to hold that baby for the first time and see the actual creation of life in full effect.

The Bible says that the Lord is the one who will give us the life we need to live. What a great perspective for Job to hold, and one that we could absolutely take a page out of as we look at our challenges day to day, and instead of seeing them as burdens and seeing them as difficulties and bad things happening in our lives, perhaps they're simply the path to us becoming gold. I love that one.
