In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.
Hello, my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.
Perhaps you've heard the phrase, when it rains, it pours. Job is certainly an example of that one. But what do you do when it's not raining or pouring on you?
It's raining or pouring on someone else. How do you help? Do you bring up the elephant in the room?
Do you I think Job Chapter 2 gives us some insight to what Job's friends decided to do. Now, Job's friends later on in the story are going to get a pretty good tongue lashing from Heavenly Father as he explains to them that their perception of Job's challenges was not necessarily the correct perception. In Job Chapter 2, we have an interesting perspective of what they choose to do during the raining and pouring in Job's life.
I am aware that we're not going to get through all of Job's stories here as I'm picking and choosing phrases to go through. But I hope that what I am picking, perhaps as I've tried to pray for the messages to share, I hope the ones I select are landing with somebody out there listening to the episodes as we go through this week. Our verse for today is Job Chapter 2, verse 13.
Not too far off from our verse yesterday. Job is going through it. It's raining.
It's pouring. His friends get together. They're like, what do we do about this?
He's really going through it right now. And verse 13 is what they decided to do. Perhaps you and I could take a page out of their book.
So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and none spake a word unto him, for they saw that his grief was very great. You know, sometimes it doesn't take a word of wisdom for someone going through the struggles. Sometimes it's not the time for you to tell them that their own decisions are what brought upon their challenges and difficulties.
Sometimes a cookie or a cupcake doesn't quite land the way that you hope it could. But in this scenario, what Job's three friends decided to do is quite I can think of specific times in my life, the clearest ones, obviously when I lost my dad and when I lost my mom. In both of those scenarios, a different friend, a different person in each scenario, did the same thing that Job's friends did here.
They sat down, they didn't say anything, for they saw that my grief was very great. But them sitting down next to me is what made all the difference. My friends, maybe it's not your time to be experiencing the Job challenges, but you may very well know and see others going through their own Job challenges today.
And perhaps this is an opportunity for you to, if you're lost in what exactly to do, perhaps just showing up, being present, sitting next to them, will let somebody know that they have support and love, a foundation to lean on. Thank you for watching.
