3.213 I am Doing a Great Work

In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.

Hello, my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.

You ever been facing temptations before? Kind of maybe wasting your time, or maybe even temptations to choose the wrong path or do the wrong thing? I wish in those moments that when I've experienced those things that Nehemiah chapter 6 came to mind.

So that's where we're going to dive into our verse for today inside of our reading of Ezra and Nehemiah. I hope chapter 6 comes to mind for you after listening to this episode, and it's going to attach to a past episode we did in season 2 inside of the Doctrine and Covenants. Nehemiah 6:3: I sent messengers unto them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down.

Why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you? My friends, this one, like, epic to me. This is a power verse.

What a great response when facing temptation to do the wrong things in our lives, or facing temptation to do nothing productive in our lives. Perhaps you face the world of doom scrolling, the world where you just sit and do absolutely nothing other than flick your thumb across the screen of your phone. If you're facing those, come back to this verse and listen to Nehemiah again: I am doing a great work so that I cannot come down.

I can't waste my time. I'm doing a great work. Now, if you are stuck and you're like, 'Allen, I'm not so sure I'm doing a great work right now.' What's my great work?

My friends, do you consider the work that you're doing day to day to be great work? Is it the work of the Lord? Could you provide some more space and time to do the work of the Lord?

For her to serve as a service missionary. Our mission here locally has around 175 service missionaries, all full, all providing service. That is a great work.

You and I, we don't have to fill all of the day with it. But if we have enough free time that we're facing temptations to do nothing or do things we shouldn't be doing, and perhaps this response here is worth your time and attention. I love this response, and I hope you can develop to love it too.

When facing those temptations, turn to them and say, 'Hey, I'm doing a great work so that I cannot come down.' I don't have the time to waste my time because I'm doing a great work. I love that response. I get excited for that one.
