3.202 Your Work Shall Be Rewarded

This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.

Hello, my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.

My friends, sometimes it doesn't take the whole story. Sometimes it just takes a little segment, what we like to call a power verse, something to just get you up and rolling. And I want to talk about power verses today inside of our Savory Salt episode.

We are reading this week Second Chronicles 14-20, 26-30. We have kind of fast forwarded and yet absolutely kind of rewinded to as we go to a section in Second Chronicles that timeline-wise it basically lines up with First Kings rather than Second Kings. So we kind of went through Second Kings.

We got to the destruction of Jerusalem and now we're kind of backed up a hundred years or so inside of Second Chronicles. Hopefully you take some time to kind of understand that timeline a little better. I'm not going to do it here.

Savory Salt is not a history podcast as much as I want to make it that way sometimes. Instead, let's focus on the power verses and the message today for just a second. Inside of Come Follow Me, I wanted to just grab a section here.

It's just a little teaching from Neal A. Maxwell. Elder Maxwell teaches here from 1996.

The scriptures offer us so many doctrinal diamonds, and when the light of the Spirit plays upon their several facets, they sparkle with celestial scents and illuminate the path we are to follow. So my friends, that talk that he shares there, it's called "According to the Desires of Our Hearts". That one, I like to call these types of things an afternoon read and a lifetime study.

I've talked about a few of these different types of books and stuff. That's one of them. That's actually the first phrase, the first sentence of that talk.

This idea that the scriptures have these doctrinal diamonds, and when you shine the light of the Spirit, it's easy to get bogged down in the history and try to figure out the story and who who and who going where. And instead what I wanted to do is grab a couple of these nuggets that I hope maybe shine some light here of the Spirit. And maybe it shines in a way different to you than it does to me, or maybe it just helps you out a little bit.

Today, one of those I want to share also comes from Come Follow Me. I typically kind of try to pick different verses than Come Follow Me verses do, but this one I wanted to share with us. It is Second Chronicles chapter 15 verse 7.

It is short and here's the message. Let's see if we can shine some light of the Spirit here and get some diamond sparkle out of it. It says, Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded.

My friends, I think sometimes we get caught in The Gospel of Jesus Christ is purifying us. It is, in effect, turning us into those diamonds through the stress, the challenge, the pressure of life. And as we seek to be strong and not weak, I know that the Lord will uplift us and strengthen us through those challenges.

I hope that we can see sometimes in these difficult chapters to read historically and wonder what exactly is happening in the story itself. Perhaps sometimes reading those stories is just a matter of picking the little verses that have these nuggets of beautiful diamond doctrine inside of them and worth shining those lights into our lives. See if that helps illuminate the path a little bit for each one of us.
