In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.
Hello, my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.
I can't believe I missed it. My friends, we are on day 187, which means we have blown right past 50% of the Old Testament in your study. Congratulations on following along.
Congratulations on sticking with it, as some of these stories are difficult to read. Some of them are hard not just to read, but to understand. Thank you for watching.
You are becoming more savory as you go into your own lives and take your own blooming testimonies, sharing the light with others. Congratulations on making it halfway through this season of Savory Salt as we go verse by verse. We transition now into this small window of time where, I can't even imagine, what a powerful friendship couple Elijah and Elisha were.
Elisha becomes kind of this apprentice of sorts to Elijah, and we're going to see that inside of our verse for today, before Elijah is going to be taken up with a chariot through a whirlwind, and Elisha is going to become the next prophet here. Before we get there, we are reading 2 Kings 2-7, and inside of 2 Kings 2, we get our verse for today, which is 2 Kings 2, verse... I'm trying to pick which one we're going to do because they are similar.
Let's do verse 2. We're going to go there. Sorry that took me a second because I was like, 'I had a different one set,' but I'm like, 'No, this one's it.' Verse two says, 'And Elijah said unto Elisha, "Tarry here, I pray thee; for the Lord hath sent me to Bethel." And Elisha said unto him, "As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee." So they went down to Bethel.' Now that's not necessarily a power verse on its own until you start reading the following verses and you realize each time Elijah says, 'Hey, let's split up,' Elisha says, 'I will not leave thee.' What a powerful context when you consider our last thoughts at the end of last week about following the prophet, about seeing who that is, and about knowing and sticking to it.
My friends, what would happen in our own lives if we were simply committed to follow the prophet at that level? 'I will not leave thee.' Wherever the prophet goes, I am going. This isn't about blind obedience. This is about understanding the mantle that has fallen upon the prophet and seeing him as the Lord's mouthpiece and the leader of His church here on the earth today.
I love these phrases. You can go in chapter two and do a little bit of a count about how many times Elisha responds with, 'I will not leave thee.' I hope that you and I take an opportunity to see what it means in our own lives to hold the context of following our living prophet today. Keeping the thought that whatever happens, whatever he says, whatever direction he asks, 'I will not leave thee' is our call.
That's all for today, my friends. You and I have come here for such a time as this. Step forward in faith, and let's be Savory Salt. We will be here tomorrow, and we hope you are too.
