Allen Roberds reflects on 1 Kings 17:15, where the widow of Zarephath's simple act of faith and obedience to Elijah initiated a miraculous chain of events, starting with daily provision and culminating in the raising of her son. This episode explores how small acts of faith can lead to profound miracles, emphasizing the blessings that follow those who believe and act on divine counsel.

Key Points

  • Discover how the widow of Zarephath's obedience in 1 Kings 17:15, though seemingly small, set the stage for extraordinary miracles.
  • Learn how initial acts of faith, like feeding Elijah, can lead to much greater divine interventions, including the raising of the dead.
  • Explore the connection between following the word of the Lord and the counsel of living prophets in receiving spiritual blessings.
  • Understand that miracles are real and accessible to those who believe, keep commandments, and make covenants with God.

I know miracles are real. I know they come directly through blessings from our Heavenly Father. I know that you and I and all those that keep the commandments and covenants of the Lord are available to receive those miracles in their lives.

In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as savory salt.

Hello, my friends, it's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve. My friends, did you find the other verse I challenged you to find yesterday?

If you didn't listen to yesterday, it's okay, you'll be forgiven, but you should go back and give yesterday a listen because it sets the stage for today. Elijah has come to a widow woman's house. She has a son.

They are exceptionally poor. She has perhaps less than even a meal left of food. And Elijah asks her to feed him.

And then we get the verse here. He promises her, if she does so, she's going to be all right. Verse 15, it says, And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah.

And she, and he, and her house did eat many days. Now you might say that just this going and doing is the beginning of this miracle here. And it's a good job for her.

I want to plant something else because there's an even greater miracle coming by the end of this chapter. It was only just the beginning of her trial of faith. Because we go from the food miracle here to, by the end of this chapter, the miracle of her son literally having his soul put back into his body.

The Bible says that Elijah was raised from the dead. That is going to require an immense amount of faith. And that faith started where?

If I read this correctly, that faith started in her willingness to go and do according to the saying of Elijah. My friends, yesterday we talked about the importance of following and doing according to the word of the Lord. Lord, today we see another one very similar to it.

She went and did according to the saying of the prophet. Perhaps they are one and the same, as the scripture says, but perhaps we are going to be tested in both ways. Are we willing to follow the word of the Lord, and are we willing to follow the word of the prophet?

I am so grateful for living prophets today, and I am grateful to be able to see these small miracles develop into major miracles. And even with the raising of this son, we are not done with the miracles that follow Elijah. My friends, miracles follow those who believe.

I am a witness to them. I have spoken to them in these Savory Salt episodes in the past. I will continue to speak of them.

I know miracles are real. I know they come directly through blessings from our Heavenly Father. I know that you and I and all those that keep the commandments and covenants of the Lord are available to receive those miracles in their lives.

That is all for today, my friends. Ha! More Elijah coming.

You and I have come here for such a time as this. Step forward in faith and let's be Savory Salt. We will be here tomorrow and we hope you are too.
