Show Notes

Join Allen Roberds for a reflection on the profound lessons from 2 Samuel 11 and 12, detailing David's fall and its implications for spiritual endurance. This episode draws inspiration from President Monson's impactful 1972 talk, "Finishers Wanted," to highlight the crucial importance of enduring to the end and finishing strong in our faith journey.

Key Points

  • The story of David's fall in 2 Samuel 11 and 12 serves as a powerful reminder that spiritual journeys are not always linear, even for those with a heart like the Lord's.
  • Allen emphasizes that merely starting strong in our faith is insufficient; the true challenge and blessing lie in enduring to the end and finishing strong.
  • The reflection draws on President Monson's address, "Finishers Wanted," encouraging listeners to identify and cultivate the marks of a true finisher in their own lives.
  • Listeners are prompted to use these insights from both scripture and modern revelation to realign their spiritual path and recommit to perseverance.
  • The episode underscores the idea that the Lord cheers for us to choose to be finishers, especially in a world where staying true can be difficult.

My friends, the Lord is cheering for us to choose to be finishers.

In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate and point others to him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.

Hello, my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.

Did you know that you can make playlists inside of the Gospel Library app? Have we already talked about this? Because this is amazing.

My friends, welcome to our new week as we dive into 2 Samuel and into 1 Kings. The Bible is a book of the Bible. I hope that you are aware of the three little dots in the top right corner of the Gospel Library app.

As you're studying, as you're reading, you can tap on those three little dots and then you have the option there to add to a playlist. I want to share one from my playlist here today because it's going to be our reading for the day. It's going to come from a note that I had inside of Gospel Library app inside of the reading of 2 Samuel 11 and 12.

Now, 2 Samuel 11 and 12 is that sad piece I've been talking about through a couple of the episodes as we've had the rise and fall of Saul. We're going to have the rise and fall of David here in 2 Samuel 11 and 12 as he chooses to not only commit adultery that he does, but also arrange murder as well. And we see this incredible fall of David, this man that has gone from someone just like the heart of the Lord and then could fall so far.

That's why it took me into one of my power verse playlist stories, whatever you want to call this. It's a conference talk from an age ago. It is from April of 1972 by President Monson.

This one is such a powerful talk, such a great reminder for those that kind of get stuck in, like, 'ah, am I doing this right?' Or 'is this worth sticking around for?' Especially in our day and age as even the elect will fall, it's a chance for us to realign and see where we're at. Let's get into it. This is called "Finishers Wanted." I'm going to make sure that the link Thank you for watching.

A little bit of context in case you don't dive into the conference talk itself. He's talking about not starting off with power and on fire. As we get our testimonies, as we start off strong, that that is not the only piece that's important to us, but that finishing is strong as well.

Staying true, enduring to the end and finishing strong. He says this after talking a little bit about each one of those marks. The Marks of a True Finisher.

My friends, the Lord is cheering for us to choose to be finishers. As we have come to an understanding of his truth in our lives, may we find those six marks in our own lives and seek to be finishers as well. That's all for today, my friends.

Please enjoy this talk. I love this one. You and I have come here for such a time as this.

Step forward in faith and let's be savory salt. We will be here tomorrow and we hope you are too.
