In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.

Hello, my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.

I've got a fun activity for you today if you've never tried it before. Perhaps it's one that you have done, just a little bit different flavor. I want you to ask your friends or your family, those that know you best, if I were gone today, what phrases that I say would come to mind?

Now I know that sounds like a little bit of a weird context there, but it feeds right into our verse for today. I do this sometimes with my daughters. Sometimes we lead to great conversations about phrases that I say to the family.

And other times it's just silly phrases and things that I say that I don't even realize I say them. And yes, they do speak to some of the phrases I say here on Savory Salt that I don't even realize I repeat. So, it's worth that because I want you to take that opportunity, hear what the people are saying, and then realize that whoever is saying that in your life, they are hearing what you're saying and it's sticking with them.

Now keep that in mind as we dive into our final verse inside of our readings for this week with Ruth and 1st Samuel chapters 1 through 7. We're going to go to 1st Samuel chapter 3 verse 19. This verse does tie in very much with yesterday's verses, with 1st Samuel 2:26.

In 1st Samuel 3:19, we get another growth verse here, but a little bit different take on it. Let's take a look at it and see what it says. Verse 19 says, "And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground." Now that's an interesting image.

That's not one that the scriptures are common with, right? Like, hey, don't drop the words. We don't really see that phrase used very often inside scripture.

I read it and I go, "That's interesting. What is meant by that? 'Did let none of his words fall to the ground'?" I think it ties into the example that I gave at the beginning of the episode here: What words and phrases do you hear around you that stick in your life? Now take that idea, whatever words and phrases are coming to mind for you, and put it into the context of the Lord and his living prophets.

Samuel's going to grow here, and part of his growth is this development with the Lord. But did you notice what helped that development? Samuel's going to let none of the Lord's words fall to the ground.

How many times have you maybe listened to General Conference, and you get done and, like, here's an example from our family. We get done. We've just listened to, you know, four or five sessions of General Conference, and we go, "What was your favorite talk?" And everybody's like deer in the headlights.

And it's not that nobody was listening. My friends, we have an opportunity to hear from the Lord today through his scriptures, certainly, but also through his living prophets and apostles. We have an opportunity to have inspiration and direct revelation given to us by the Spirit.

Do we let those words fall to the ground? Here we see that part of Samuel's progression and ultimately part of his development in becoming a chosen prophet for the Lord, I believe dealt specifically with the way that he handled the words of the Lord. He truly did let none of his words fall to the ground.

Great example for you and for me, and I hope you have a fun time listening to others around you tell you the phrases that they would remember if you were gone. Kind of a fun one to see the phrases that you use often that your family and friends pick up on. That is all for today, my friends.

You and I have come here for such a time as this. Step forward in faith, and let's be Savory Salt. We will be here tomorrow, and we hope you are too.
