In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.

Hello, my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose you this day whom you will serve.

You know, I have this favorite playlist of mine. I've made it over the years. I call it "Good Stuff." And while I didn't intend at the start of this week to give you some of my favorite songs from it, it seems to be where it's rolling.

So let's add another one to the playlist, shall we? We are inside of the book of Ruth and the beginning of 1 Samuel in chapters 1 through 7 this week. We're going to transition as we've seen this difficulty and struggle and bitterness that Hannah's gone through.

As we get into 1 Samuel chapter 2, we see Hannah praise the Lord through song. And it attached straight on with one of my songs in my "Good Stuff" playlist that I wanted to share with you as well. So take an opportunity and click on that one.

The best way I can think to give you guys songs is through YouTube. So I find the songs, and if you're enjoying them, you can go find your favorite place that you listen and stream music and add these songs to your playlist if you think it's worth your time and attention. I wanted to get into Hannah's songs of praise here.

Really, what we're looking at in 1 Samuel 2 is verses 1-10 in terms of her kind of praise and glory of the Lord. And the verse that I picked for today inside of those verses is 1 Samuel 2. It says, "I love this imagery." Rock is used regularly to describe the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

He is described throughout scripture as this solid foundation. We get the rock of Christ throughout New Testament and Book of Mormon references. I love the term inside of the footnote as you look at it: this idea that it's not just rock, it's cornerstone.

This core piece of any structure that needed to make sure that the structure is sure and that the building will stand. I love this part because for me, all other things in terms of my faith, my hope for a better future, my hope for a better family as we grow and develop our eternal relationships, all of them stem off of the belief and concept that Jesus Christ is indeed the Savior of the world. Everything else falls around that as peripheral, but it starts as Jesus Christ being the Savior, the Redeemer, someone I can turn to in my time of need and struggle and sorrow, someone I can turn to in my times of good choices, bad choices, mistakes, follies.

All of those things fall under the realm of our Rock, Jesus Christ. I love in this verse the two phrases before that as well: "There is none holy as the Lord, for there is none beside thee." My friends, as Hannah accepts this information, remember, just yesterday (and not literally, but in our terms of our podcast episodes) just yesterday, she was expressing the bitterness of her soul as she prayed to the Lord. He is the Lord of all things.
