In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.
Hello, my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.
You know, when our plans fall apart, when things don't turn out the way that we had intended them to turn out, it can be really easy to forget the promises the Lord has made to those who make and keep covenants with Him. I'm going to read a verse from Ruth chapter 2. But before we get there, I may be being a little preemptive here because we're not into this story yet, but I wanted to share today in the episode one of my favorite songs by Javier Ramos.
The movie that came out from Angel Studios called "David". Now if you haven't seen the movie, that's okay. The video that I'm sending you, or I guess the link that I'm putting in here, you can go see it on YouTube.
It's just one of the songs. But it's a song that illustrates this moment of unknown, uncertainty, the plans not working, things just aren't going the way that David had intended. I know I'm pre-empting this, we'll get to David's story, but the message resonates here and now.
And it resonates in this time with our verse for today as well. In Ruth's story, she's doing all that she can. She's trying to glean from the fields, which is basically the poor's way of being able to pick up the scraps and keep being fed. "The Lord recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust." Now I wanted to also give another version of this in the New King James Version, just a little bit different way to look at this verse.
Verse 12 in the New King James Version says: "The Lord repay your work, and a full reward be given you by the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge." Now there are two changes in that that I want to point out. The front end of that: "the Lord recompense thy work." In the one translation; the other translation, "repay your work." My friends, I can testify, I don't know the timeline of the Lord, but I can testify that everything you do to live your covenants, to keep the commandments of the Lord, payment is coming in blessings and abundance. I can testify to that, a full reward.
The second part of this is, "under whose wings thou art come to trust." And then in the other verse, it says, "under whose wings you have come for refuge." We can turn to the Lord for help, for refuge, for safety, for protection. And through both those challenges, in our times, we can learn to trust the Lord and to seek refuge in the Lord. I love this verse.
It's such a powerful verse for Ruth in the middle of her challenging story, and for us, for any of you in the middle of your challenging story. Please take an opportunity to listen to this song from "David". It's called "Why God, My God?".
And it's this son and mother, one of them doubting the Lord asking, "Why? Why are these things happening?" And the other expressing her faith for her son, knowing that my God will come and bring her. Thank you for watching.
