In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.
Hello, my friends. It is a new day with new opportunities. So choose ye this day whom you will serve.
I've got an activity for you in this one. So if you want to avoid the activities and growth and those types of things, you better pass on this episode. My friends, we are reading the book of Judges and inside of these Judges, we have these incredible stories of heroes and helpers.
I've loved being able to look at each one of them. And then we get these ones that aren't even sure that they're heroes and helpers themselves. And that's what I want to dive into here and then give us a little bit of an activity for each one of us.
Could be an activity that could be done in 20 minutes, 20 hours, 20 minutes, 20 minutes. Gideon, he is one of these judges that's going to be called to save the people as they turn to the Lord again. But Gideon is not too sure of the situation and he's not too sure of the Lord's calling.
You ever been in a conversation before where someone asks you a question and you look around and you go, Oh, 'who, me?' That's a little bit of what Gideon's feeling inside of this. Now, before we read this, I want to set this up by grabbing a phrase out of verse 12. Judges chapter 6 verse 12 has an angel of the Lord appearing and saying that Gideon is a mighty man of valor.
A mighty man of valor. So we got this image of a mighty man of valor. Put that image into your mind.
And then we fast forward just a couple of verses to our verse for today and it says this in Judges 6:15. And he said unto him, O my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? Behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house.
My friends, how many times have you felt like the least in your father's house? Your family is figuratively poor in Manasseh, that you're not qualified to do the work of the Lord or maybe that you're just not really who the Lord needs at this time and place to accomplish his roles and his goals. I know that I've had times in my life, many times in my life, where I've had these types of feelings as Gideon has.
And it's interesting to me that before he even expresses those feelings, he's already been addressed by the Lord or the Lord's angel here as thou mighty man of valor. My friends, our activity, if you choose to accept it, is this. What has the Lord called you in your personal scripture study?
What has he called you inside of your patriarchal blessing? The Lord is speaking to you and your heart to help perhaps you catch the vision of what the best version of you looks like. The Lord knows what the best version of you looks like.
This is a very interesting topic. The Lord has called you. Whatever it looks like, write it down.
Whatever promptings come to your memory, whatever phrases, names you've been called, whether directly from the Lord or his servants, write those things down. Or if you find yourself expressing to the Lord these feelings that Gideon did in his time, he in turn becomes a mighty man of valor here as the Lord had called him. My friends, if we will pay attention to the things the Lord is calling us, perhaps we too can rise to those moments and become men and women of valor in our own right as well.
Enjoy the activity ahead of you if you choose to take this one on. That's all for today, my friends. You and I have come here for such a time as this.
Step forward in faith and let's be Savory Salt. We will be here tomorrow and we hope you are too.
