Allen Roberds reflects on Joshua 3:5, where Joshua commands the Israelites to "Sanctify yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you." This episode explores how intentional preparation and daily sanctification can open our lives to witness and experience God's miracles, much like the Israelites prepared to cross the Jordan River.

Key Points

  • The command to "Sanctify yourselves" in Joshua 3:5 serves as a preemptive warning and a call to prepare for God's impending miracles.
  • Reflect on how knowing a miracle is coming tomorrow would change your behavior today, prompting self-examination and spiritual readiness.
  • Sanctification involves setting ourselves apart and making ourselves holy, a daily practice that prepares us to witness and bear witness of God's wonders.
  • Just as the Israelites prepared to cross the Jordan River, we are called to prepare ourselves to allow God to perform wonders in our lives.

May we take the time on a daily basis to sanctify ourselves so that tomorrow we allow and open the opportunity for the Lord to truly do wonders among us.

In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.

Hello, my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.

If you knew a massive miracle was headed your way tomorrow, how would you prepare for it today? I love the readings we're getting inside of the book of Joshua. I really just like the way that the Lord says, prepare and be amazed.

Over and over and over again. And if you think about Joshua time period here, the children of Israel, now it had been a generation since their crossing of the Red Sea. So there are going to be those that haven't even witnessed that event.

They heard about it for sure. In fact, neighboring civilizations have heard about it, and they're terrified of the Israelites because they know that God is on their side. But there are going to be those in Israel who never saw the incredible miracles throughout this time period.

And so in comes Joshua, new guy, he's in charge. We think the Lord's with him. We feel like he is.

And then we start to get commands and directions from Joshua. And so you got to put yourself in the perspective here of these people preparing themselves to go into a place that's been forbidden them for 40 years. That's where we get into Joshua chapter 3.

The Lord continues to prepare his people for this. And in chapter 3 verse 5, Joshua says this: "Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you." Now it's not often that you get a preemptive warning that miracles are heading your way. You get them a few times here inside the Old Testament.

And we know the miracle that's coming is this duplication of crossing the Red Sea over into the River Jordan in this new experience. And yet Joshua here says something fascinating that got me thinking about how I prepare for my life on a daily basis: "Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you." First of all, this concept of sanctifying yourselves goes down to the ritual washing and anointing that the Israelites were taught of with the tabernacle and preparing to be holy. We know of those today for those of us that have gone through the temple in terms of these washing and anointings to set ourselves apart.

So if Joshua is saying, hey, prepare, wash yourself, anoint yourself, sanctify yourself, make yourself holy, that could be something that we could pay attention to in our own lives. But if you knew it was coming tomorrow, how would it change your behavior today? Would you consider things you need to repent of?

Would it change the way that you talk or speak or react with those around you? Would your behavior be different because you've been told you're going to witness a miracle from God? Are you ready to witness the miracle?

Are you ready to bear witness that you witnessed the miracle? These are the questions stewing. I believe in miracles.

I believe I've witnessed miracles. I believe you have as well, and that we will continue to see incredible miracles as we prepare for the coming of our Savior Jesus Christ. May we take the time on a daily basis to sanctify ourselves so that tomorrow we allow and open the opportunity for the Lord to truly do wonders among us.

That is all for today, my friends. You and I have come here for such a time as this. Step forward in faith, and let's be savory salt. We will be here tomorrow, and we hope.
