Show Notes

In this Savory Salt episode, Allen Roberds reflects on Exodus 36:5, where the people of Israel generously brought "much more than enough" for the Tabernacle's construction. He connects this ancient response to modern calls for church service, encouraging listeners to expand participation and discover how collective effort always yields an abundance.

Key Points

  • The Israelites responded to Moses' call for contributions to the Tabernacle in Exodus 36:5 with an overwhelming abundance, bringing 'much more than enough' materials.
  • Allen Roberds encourages expanding participation in church service beyond a small group, inviting everyone to respond to spiritual calls to action from leaders.
  • When individuals collectively commit to acting on spiritual promptings and service opportunities, the outcome is always an abundance of resources and effort, exceeding what is needed.
  • Personal anecdotes illustrate how widespread willingness to serve leads to tasks being completed efficiently and with a surplus of help.

My friends, as we answer the call to action from the Lord and as we do so together, side by side, we will always be able to provide much more than enough.

In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.

Hello my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.

We've done two consecutive days. I don't know that I've ever connected a three-day back-to-back-to-back concept of ideas, but I'm going to do it today. We've been talking this week inside of Exodus 35 through the book of Leviticus, and we haven't seemed to be able to get past Exodus 35 as we've been talking about the book of Leviticus.

We've talked about Moses' call to action and the response of the people. What I wanted to do in part three here was continue this conversation about the STP in the church. Are you part of the same 10 people that respond?

And if not, can you help expand that? Maybe we could get the same 20 people or the same 30 people or the same 50 people. I want It would be amazing if everyone that participated in the church responded to the calls to action that were given on a daily basis by our leaders I want to continue this as we get into our reading.

We're going to go to chapter 36 now. And we're going to kind of fast forward in 36 and then we're going to come back to another one tomorrow that's a separate idea. In Exodus chapter 36, we see just what the response was.

We found out that the people came in response to Moses' call to action, but we didn't really find out how many came. We just saw that those that were stirred in their hearts and those that were willing and took initiative went and donated. But in Exodus 36, we see how many did it.

This is our response to the same 10 people and perhaps encouraging us to expand those borders. Exodus 36 verse 5 is our verse for today. And verse 5 says this, And they spake unto Moses, saying, The people bring much more than enough for the service of the work which the Lord commanded to make.

My friends isn that an awesome response A prophet called the people to action The people responded those whose hearts were stirred and who were willing to take initiative And how many did it Much more than enough My friends, if you and if I will commit to ourselves to take action on the things we're encouraged to take action by the Lord. Listen to our calls from our living prophet and apostles. Listen to those of our church leaders seek out opportunities to serve and through that if we would all do that we would always and I believe this wholeheartedly we would always be able to produce much more than enough.

I can think of two specific times where I signed up for a service opportunity in my ward. One was in a local garden here in one of the church gardens in Sandy, Utah. And another one was downtown working on Welfare Square.

I think that one, I'm trying to remember if it was the, I think it was the cheese that we were working on, but I could be wrong there. But in both of those circumstances, we had our signup list from the ward came through. And then for whatever reason, we had more people show up than were signed up.

Way more people than were needed And while the activity in the assignment was supposed to be kind of a four assignment one was in the garden it was weeding right We needed to weed all the tomato plants and all the other plants As a group we were able to go and get through it in much less than the four hours We were done in about an hour and a half And as we got done the person in charge of the garden had walked all of the rows and said thank you so much We don usually have We've come to the end of this type of response. You guys are done. You've completed everything we had to do and we were on our way.

We had together been able to provide much more than enough. My friends, as we answer the call to action from the Lord and as we do so together, side by side, we will always be able to provide much more than enough. I believe that wholeheartedly and I'm excited to do this.

That's all for today, my friends. You and I have come here for such a time as this. Step forward in faith and let's be savory salt. We will be here tomorrow and we hope you are too.
