Allen Roberds explores Exodus 20:2, the first of the Ten Commandments, revealing two foundational truths: God's existence and His power to deliver us from bondage. This episode encourages listeners to remember God's past miracles in their own lives, reflecting on the historical forgetfulness of the children of Israel and fostering gratitude for Christ's Atonement.

Key Points

  • Allen Roberds shares a humorous missionary story from Mongolia, illustrating the importance of accurate language in conveying spiritual truths, particularly around God's love versus jealousy in the Ten Commandments.
  • The core reflection centers on Exodus 20:2, where God introduces Himself as the deliverer from Egyptian bondage, establishing His divine authority.
  • Listeners are invited to remember two profound truths: that God exists and that He actively delivers us from our personal bondages, struggles, and challenges.
  • The episode prompts a 'mirror moment,' encouraging self-reflection on how easily we forget recent miracles when facing new difficulties, mirroring the ancient Israelites' forgetfulness.
  • Gratitude is emphasized for the reality of God's existence and for the deliverance and strength provided through the Atonement of Jesus Christ in our daily lives.

One, He is real. I believe it. I know it. I have felt it. I have confirmation of it. Two, He delivers us out of our bondage and our struggles and our challenges.

In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as savory salt.

Hello my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose you this day whom you will serve.

Are you ready for a mission story? This one's a classic. It deals with our readings this week as we're going through Exodus 19 through 34.

It's going to focus inside of one of my first times teaching the Ten Commandments when I served my mission in Mongolia. And yes, this is a learning the language story. The Lord is a Jealous God I don know if you hear the difference in hartai and hairtai but they are two different words One is full of jealousy One is full of love And as I was teaching once, very new to the mission, but senior companion in charge of teaching, Elder Swanson and I, shout out to Elder Swanson, We're at a house, we're going through the Ten Commandments, and the guy says, what is this here that the Lord is a jealous God?

But when I read it, I read that he was full of love. And so I continued teaching and saying how full of love the Lord was for us and how much love he had as we are his children. I'm bearing testimony about this all the time, not realizing that all I'm doing is overemphasizing the jealousy that God has for us as his children.

So, my friends, I hope that this spirit could convey to the man that we were teaching at the time that I was simply trying to emphasize the love that God has while instead saying the word jealous over and over and over again. Thank you for watching His heart has changed and has an opportunity to hear the word of the Lord from someone that speaks Mongolian a little better than me In that context my friends the Ten Commandments here are revealed to the children of Israel And I want to actually start our verse for today in Exodus, chapter 20, verse two, the first commandment here. And it says this, I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, The Lord establishes what I think is two things.

I'm God and I deliver you. I get you out of bondage. If we could remember those two things in our lives, wow, what an amazing perspective shift it could be, especially for those days that we face difficulties in our lives.

These are challenges. One, God exists. I am the Lord thy God.

He is real. And two, he delivers us out of bondage. How many times did the children of Israel forget the number of miracles that they were delivered out of bondage?

That they were delivered out of their hunger, that they were delivered out of their thirst, that they were delivered out of their wars that they were We can continue this list and it really easy to point the finger at the children of Israel and say how many times did they forget the Lord But my friends, this is a mirror moment for us. An opportunity to look in the mirror and say, did I just have some miracles earlier in this week or earlier in this month? And now here I am grumbling and mumbling and murmuring, wondering if the Lord exists or if he hears my prayers at all.

I love that the Lord starts off the Ten Commandments with this statement. One, He is real. I believe it.

I know it. I have felt it. I have confirmation of it.

Two, He delivers us out of our bondage and our struggles and our challenges. And that I am grateful to our Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ for His atonement for doing those two things in my life. That's all for today, my friends.

You and I have come here for such a time as this. Step forward in faith and let's be savory salt. We will be here tomorrow and we hope
