In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as savory salt.
Hello, my friends, it's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve. What about the wars and the rumors of wars and the chaos of the world around us?
How does the Atonement help us there? My friends, I hope you've enjoyed our study this week. I've tried to look at different ways to see the Easter week throughout as we look at the Savior and His Atonement for us.
I've tried to approach it through some different lenses, and today I have one that comes outside of our Come Follow Me studies, in a talk given by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland in April of 2021. I make sure the link inside of there.
I do think this is actually inside of Come Follow Me now that I think about it. This is a talk called "Not As The World Giveth." And, inside of it, he gives us an assurance through the Atonement of Christ and an assurance from a living prophet as well, at least living at the time that he gave this, from President Nelson. He says, inside of this talk, he's talking about the peace that can come through Jesus Christ and through the Atonement.
There's a paragraph inside of the talk that says this. So, in a world tossed with tempest and not comforted, as Jehovah said it would be, how do we find what he called the covenant of peace? We find it by turning to him who said he would have mercy on us and with everlasting kindness would grant peace to our children.
In spite of frightful prophecies and unsettling scriptures declaring that peace will be taken from the earth generally, the prophets, including our own beloved Russell M. Nelson, have taught that it does not have to be taken from us individually. Friends, I hope you can find the peace that comes individually through applying the Atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ in your life and feeling of His love at a personal level.
Fast forward inside of this talk, and I'll close today's episode with his closing remarks, Elder Holland's closing remarks here from this talk, "Not As The World Giveth." I think it's timely as I release it here at least on the eve of Easter. He says, may I close where I began. Tomorrow is Easter, a time for the righteous principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ and His Atonement to pass over.
Passover conflict and contention, Passover despair and transgression, and ultimately Passover death. It is a time to pledge total loyalty in word and deed to the Lamb of God who bore our griefs and carried our sorrows in His determination to finish the work of salvation in our behalf. In spite of betrayal and pain, mistreatment and cruelty, and bearing all the accumulated sins and sorrows of the human family, the Son of the Living God looked down the long path of mortality, saw us this weekend, and said: Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you; not as the world giveth, give I unto you.
Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Have a blessed, joyful, peaceful Easter. Its untold possibilities have already been paid for by the Prince of Peace, whom I love with all my heart, whose church this is, and of whom I bear unequivocal witness, even the Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen. That's all for today, my friends. You and I have come here for such a time as this.
Step forward in faith. Find peace through Christ. And let's be savory salt. We will be here tomorrow and we hope you are too.
