In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.
Hello, my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.
When I think of the Old Testament, there are few prophets I think of more than Moses fitting in the story. That's who we're introduced to as we get into our readings here in Exodus chapters one through six. We get the front end of what's happening with Pharaoh.
We see that he. We get this in our reading. But today we get to introduce perhaps one of the best-known characters of the Old Testament and even to this day, perhaps one of the most well prophets on the earth.
Let's look at our verse for today and see what. "Because I drew him out of the water." Now there are a couple of footnotes inside of verse 10 here, and I want you to jump into the footnote that is the name of Moses. You'll see there that in Egyptian it means to beget a child, and in Hebrew it means to draw out. And I think it's interesting that you get the Hebrew reasoning here inside of the end of verse 10.
Something new in. I don't think for a second that the Lord didn't know what he was doing here with the naming of the child and the placement of his opportunity inside of Pharaoh's house. But where I want to kind of take that and bridge it into our own lives is, do we feel the same way about the way the Lord calls us in our lives today?
As we have callings in the Church or opportunities to serve, we may not change our names per se or be named specifically to the calling that we have in the moment. But do we believe in the calling coming from Heavenly Father? Do we believe in the opportunity to be called in our wards and our stakes to serve or in our missions or mission areas or mission assignments?
Do we believe in those the same way that we see the story of Moses here? Everything around Moses seems to build to the story of the Israelites leaving Egypt all the way down to his name. What does it look like for us in our lives?
What roles have you been given today? Have you been asked to fulfill? Have you been called to fulfill today inside the Church that could be taken inside the same context as that of Moses being the one to draw out the Israelites from the land of Egypt?
My friends, I hope it's an opportunity for you and for me to look with a little bit more introspection into the way that we fulfill our callings, the way that we serve with those around us. Perhaps the Lord is trying to say, "Hey, Allen, be a little bit more Moses-like here." Align your calling with your duties and responsibilities and do so to the best of your ability as Moses does inside of his story. I think it's through that opportunity that we truly can see the Lord's hand in our lives as we go forward to serving the roles that we've been asked to do so.
And that's all for today, my friends. You and I have come here for such a time as this. Step forward in faith and let's be savory salt. We will be here tomorrow and we hope you are too.
