In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.

Hello my friends! It is a new day with new opportunities to see this day whom ye will serve. Hi everyone!

My name is Kira and I am Allen's oldest daughter. I just got back from serving my mission in Argentina. I want to thank all of you who are praying for me.

I believe in the power of prayer and I know that I'm able to be home safe because of you. Thank you so much. I'm so excited to share a little bit of my studies this week with you.

This week we're in Genesis 24 through 33. We're going to get a little bit into Isaac and Jacob. And we're going to be getting into Esau and Rebekah and a bunch of new characters.

Today I really wanted to go into Rebekah and her story of how she comes into the Old Testament. Here I want to put an emphasis on the scripture in Genesis 24:23. It reads, "And said, Whose daughter art thou?

Tell me, I pray thee, is there room in thy father's house for us to lodge in?" I loved this verse because I loved his first question. Whose daughter art thou? I really started thinking about this as more of a spiritual question.

It sounds like more of a logical question. And I started thinking about my identity and whose daughter I am. I obviously have my parents here on earth and they are amazing and I love them.

And I also have heavenly parents, right? I have parents in the heavens who are watching over me and I love that thought. It really helps me be more confident.

And so she took that and that's how she lived her life. And you can tell that in the Old Testament. I love the fact that when we understand who we are and whose we are, who we belong to, we belong to heavenly parents and they love us so much.

They've given us so much here on this earth, so many opportunities, and sometimes it is hard. I guarantee that when Rebekah was filling her buckets with water, that it wasn't something easy for her to do. I'm sure it was hot outside, and I'm sure she just wanted to go back home.

I'm sure she had a bunch of other chores she needed to get done. But she chose to stay, and she chose to serve because she knows who she is, and she is willing to go that extra effort to help someone in need. And I also love the fact that we read later that Rebekah comes from a wealthier household, right?

She's not living on the streets. She's someone who grew up in a nicer household. And so you would think that in her daily life, because of that, she would be less inclined to help other people, right?

You would think that maybe she would think she was above other people. But we see in this scripture that she is so service. She takes everything that the Lord gives her and she is willing to go help others and serve others with those gifts that she has been given.

And I love the fact that we can do the same in our everyday lives. We can know who we are and we can choose to serve and help other people and bless other people's lives with the opportunities that God has given us to do so. I would invite anyone to really think about this in your own life.

Really ask yourself the question, whose daughter or son art thou? Who am I? Where do I come from?

Why would God place me here right now? You know, we're talking about that we were here on earth for a specific purpose. And in this circumstance, Rebekah was able to see where she was needed and was willing to take that opportunity.

That's all for today, my friends. You and I have come here for such a time as this. Step forward in faith and let's be savory salt.

We will be here tomorrow. We hope you
