In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.
Hello, my friends, it's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve. Is there such a thing as the right place at the right time?
I think so, especially in the story we're going to look at today. But before we get there, I've got to do a shout out to all of you. I don't know if it's just you sharing Savory Salt.
I don't know if it's the work that we've done on our internet Instagram page at Savory Salt Podcast. I'm not sure what it is, but Savory Salt is growing and it's so exciting to see. Just this week, we've had some record numbers of people listening.
And I wanted to just give a shout out to those that are listening from all these different places. This week alone, we've had people listen from the United States, Germany, Italy, France, Sweden, Canada, Brazil, Russia, and Lithuania. Thank you for watching.
So cool to see the variety of locations that people are tuning in and hearing these messages. So I just wanted to shout you out. Know that I see you at least in my mind's eye as I sit down and try to think about these messages, and as I try to think about what it looks like in my own life to grow a little bit more savory.
I'm so excited to see that you're trying to do the same thing in your life as well. So wherever you're from, you are welcome here. I'm excited to continue having you join us.
Again, you can find us on Instagram at Savory Salt Podcast. I don't post there like daily, but I try to get some snippets in our thoughts a little bit here and there to try and give you an idea of what it's like to record the backside of Savory Salt. Now let's get into this right place at the right time and our thoughts for today.
We're going to look at Genesis 21, verse 2. And it's a fairly simple verse, but again, I like to take these verses and really look at them from a principle aspect, not just at face value, if that makes sense. Genesis 21, verse 2 says this: For Sarah conceived and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.
Now, if you remember this story that we're in the middle of here, Abraham and Sarah are pushing a hundred years old. The time for Sarah to have kids is way past, right? In fact, Sarah has laughed at the Lord over this.
They had some chuckles about, "Yeah, right, Lord, that we see how that really works." And yet here we have the birth of Isaac inside of chapter 21. But it's the second half of this verse that really got me thinking a little bit into what it looks like in my own life. Did you notice it says, "at the set time of which God had spoken to him"?
My friends, are there times in our lives where we want something to happen, but it's not quite the set time that the Lord has set for us? I think for me, in terms of a personal experience, or I guess more not specific experience, but in a personal relation here, I think of my patriarchal blessing. I received my patriarchal blessing when I was 18 years old.
And at the time, I can remember going back and reading through several of the paragraphs that were mentioned inside of there and really wondering, like, when was that going to happen in my life? Or, you know, when is this going to be fulfilled? And as I've gone back to my patriarchal blessing, I've seen parts, even as small as just phrases or segments of sentences in the patriarchal blessing, where I've seen that the Lord's timing in that specific part of the blessing was a perfect time in my life.
And then I see others where I'm reading and I'm like, "Heavenly Father, do you still remember that you promised this in my patriarchal blessing? I'm still waiting for some of those things to come to fruition as well." But I love the verse that helps us remember, and I'm sure Abraham and Sarah had this reminded them as well. But I love the part that it happened at the set time of the Lord.
My friends, I think the principle we can take from that is that when we're working on the Lord's timeline, there's always the right place at the right time. If we're trying to keep our covenants with the Lord, if we're trying to do the best we can, if we're trying to repent when we make mistakes, the Lord's going to open the path for us to be at the right place at the right time. I am so grateful that I have been in the Lord's timeline in my life.
I know that there are places and people that I have met and have done so in a specific window of time that the Lord has set forth. And I hope you see that as well in your lives. May we all work with the Lord so that we regularly stay in the right place at the right time.
That's all for today, my friends. Wherever you are in the world, you and I have come here for such a time as this. Step forward in faith, and let's be Savory Salt. We will be here tomorrow and we hope you are too.
