In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as savory salt.

Hello, my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.

Deep question for you today. How often do you think about your eternal potential? Now you might be saying, whoa, Allen, that's a little much to start off the day with.

And that's okay. Maybe you don't think about it that much. But the book of Genesis, especially in chapter one here as we go through the creation, I think, urges us, invites us to think about our eternal potential, especially as we see it through the lens of the creation of man from God himself.

Let's take a look at our verse for the day and see if it helps us understand it a little bit better. Our verse for today is going to come from Genesis 1 verse 27. But before we get to verse 27, we need to kind of understand what happened in the verses preceding.

The Lord has done two things, or I guess he done one thing and then observed what he done. But throughout the verses before verse 27, the Lord has created and then he has looked upon. Where he creates man.

And the creation of man comes inside of, you know, 26, 27, 28, kind of around there. So I want you to kind of focus inside there. But 27 is the one we're going to use for the verse.

It says this: so God created man in his own image. In the image of God created he him. Male and female created he them.

So we find out here that God created man in his image. So if we are created from God, we then carry inside of us the seed and the potential of what God is and does. And what did we just learn that he is and does?

We just learned in the verses before that God creates and that he creates good things. What does that mean for us and our eternal potential? Well, I don't think I'm leaping too far out here when I say that for each of us, it puts us in a seat of being able to create.

And what is it we can create? We too get to create good things. My friends, that should be empowering to every one of us, regardless of our station in life.

We have within us the seed, the potential to create good things because God does it in the book of Genesis here at the beginning of chapter one, God creates and he sees that it is good. And then he gets to man and he creates man and woman in his image. As such, we then have his potential implanted in us.

I love that idea because I love the idea that God gives within each one of us a raw ability to create. Now we know there are literal ways of creation, right? He gives within us the ability to create families.

That's going to come in verse 28. So, we're talking about creation in terms of extending families. But what other good can you and I create in our lives?

There is so much potential inside each one of us to create good. Think about the multiplying effect if all of us are focused on that eternal potential of creating good in our lives around us. That is truly not just individual, personal and family change.

That's community change. That's nation change. That's world change.

If we would accept inside of us the potential that God shows us here in Genesis 1:27, that each one of us carries as a created son or daughter of an eternal God. That's all for today, my friends. You and I have come here for such a time as this.

Step forward in faith and let's be savory salt. We'll be here tomorrow and we hope you are too.
