Show Notes

In this episode, Allen Roberds delves into Abraham 3:11, reflecting on Abraham's experience of talking with the Lord "face to face," an event mirrored by Moses. He encourages listeners to seek their own spiritual "face-to-face" communication with God, fostering deeper understanding of the Old Testament and personal revelation.

Key Points

  • The episode highlights Abraham 3:11, describing Abraham's direct, face-to-face conversation with the Lord, similar to Moses's prophetic experience.
  • Allen Roberds emphasizes the scriptural concept of 'redundancy' or 'remembering' as a vital way to grasp and internalize divine truths.
  • Listeners are challenged to seek a personal, spiritual 'face-to-face' communication with God, even if not literal, to gain understanding of scripture and personal application.
  • Spiritual understanding and revelation can come through various channels, including deep scripture study, conference talks, or insights shared by others like teachers or friends.
  • The episode encourages individuals to actively lean into opportunities for divine communication to better comprehend the Old Testament and live as 'savory salt' in their daily lives.

Whatever it may be, I want you to lean in this year to the opportunity to communicate with God face to face. And let's see what happens for you and for me.

In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as savory salt.

Hello, my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.

Dare we be a little bit redundant here on Savory Salt? Absolutely we do. We're reading this week Moses chapter 1 as well as Abraham chapter 3.

And yes, we're going to be redundant because one of my favorite words in the scriptures is the word remember, and that's what redundancy is. It's an opportunity for us to remember the truths that the Lord has placed directly in our paths. So, Abraham chapter 3 is going to be one of those redundancies for us today.

Now, you may be wondering, how in the world did we go from Moses chapter 1 to Abraham chapter 3 at the beginning of the Old Testament where we should be in Genesis? That's a great question, I'm sure you were thinking it. Well, Moses chapter 1 and Abraham chapter 3 feed into a little bit of the same type of experience.

One with Moses and one with Abraham, obviously. But Abraham chapters 1 and 2 are not forgotten. They're going to come into our study here in a couple of weeks.

Abraham chapter 3 is going to give us a little bit of the view that Abraham got into pre-earth life for us as human beings. Where were we before all of this started? Before the creation of the earth and what were we doing?

We're going to talk more about that inside of our Abraham chapter 3 study. But first today, our redundancy. Let's look at Abraham chapter 3 verse 11 and see what we mean by this redundancy.

Verse 11 says this: 'Thus I, Abraham, talked with the Lord face to face, as one man talketh with another. And he told me of the works which his hands had made.' Now, did you catch the redundancy there? It's only been a couple of days ago that we read the experience of Moses talking with God face to face.

We now have two witnesses in front of us that the Lord speaks to his prophets face to face and that he communicates in a way that they understand and he shows them truths that help them in their mortal journey. Now, that's all great and wonderful for the prophets, but what does it mean for us? Well, here's where the challenge comes in a little bit for us here on Savory Salt.

Our pursuit in Savory Salt is to be a little bit better every day to make sure that we're shining the light of Christ just a little bit more in our lives. That we're doing a little bit better every day as we go. This year, as we study the Old Testament, there's the risk of not understanding because the Old Testament's in an old language with an older culture thousands of years ago.

And so we just might read it and say, I don't know what that means for me. And that's okay. But the challenge can come into play if we're willing to say, 'What does it look like for us in our lives as we study the Old Testament this year to talk with God face to face?' Now I know and I believe that these face-to-face experiences with Moses and Abraham were literal.

And so you might be saying, 'Allen, I don't know that I'm gonna literally pursue a face-to-face conversation with God.' And I understand that. That's okay. But figuratively and even more importantly, spiritually speaking, we absolutely have the opportunity to have face-to-face.

That means that he can bring the Old Testament understanding to you as you're willing to dive into it. That understanding may come through a fireside chat that you hear. It may come through a conference talk that you study in part with the Old Testament.

It may come from a friend or a seminary teacher or a parent explaining the concepts that you see in the Old Testament. Whatever it may be, I want you to lean in this year to the opportunity to communicate with God face to face. And let's see what happens for you and for me.

That's all for today, my friends. You and I have come here for such a time as this. Step forward in faith and let's be savory salt. We'll be here tomorrow and we hope you are too.
