In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as savory salt.

Hello, my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.

How does knowing who you are change what you do? We're continuing our readings this week inside of Moses chapter 1 and Abraham chapter 3. And I hope maybe if you missed it a couple of days ago, I hope that you've snuck in some of the reading of President Holland's talk.

I guess he was Elder Holland at the time. And then Satan comes and demands that Moses worship him. And we have inside this response, this is again, I can't, I can't overstate the importance of Moses chapter one in terms of the things that we're learning right here up front before we dive into the creation of the world or anything else.

We're getting these key components about the nature of God, the nature of man, and the nature of the opposition to God. Our verse for today is Moses chapter one, verse 13. And it says this: And it came to pass that Moses looked upon Satan and said, Who art thou?

For behold, I am a son of God, in the similitude of his Only Begotten. And where is thy glory, that I should worship thee? I love this response by Moses, because you can feel that he is empowered.

He's just had the light and the presence of God upon him. And so he knows what that feels like. And in that moment, Satan comes.

Moses' response is like, "Who are you?" Right? And then his response includes his understanding of who he is: "I am a son of God in the similitude of his Only Begotten." Isn't that amazing? My friends, when you go to President Nelson's talk and you see what he was trying to say to the young adults here just a few years ago, and really trying to say to all of us, as a prophet, he speaks to the world.

He says inside of it, "I will speak to each of these three points." Now this is the middle of his talk so you can dive in. I'll make sure there's a link inside the podcast episode. But he says this: "First, know the truth about who you are.

I believe that if the Lord were speaking to you directly tonight, the first thing he would make sure you understand is your true identity. My dear friends, you are literally spirit children of God. You have sung this truth since you learned the words to 'I Am a Child of God.' But is that eternal truth imprinted upon your heart?

Has this truth rescued you when confronted with temptation? I fear that you may have heard this truth so often that it sounds more like a slogan than divine truth. And yet, the way you think about who you really are affects almost every decision you will ever make." My friends, I know that in moments of challenges and struggles in my life, returning to the fact that I am a son of God has helped me make better decisions.

Have I been perfect all the time? No, I haven't. I have certainly made mistakes.

But in the moments when I can return to the knowledge that I am a son of God, my behavior, my actions, my responses change. I want to be more like my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, my Savior. And the knowledge of who I am can help me daily on that path.

I hope it can help you as well as you seek to remember your true identity as a son or daughter of a loving Heavenly Father. That's all for today, my friends. You and I have come here for such a time as this.

Step forward in faith and let's be Savory Salt. We'll be here tomorrow and we hope you are too.
