In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.

Hello, my friends! It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom ye will serve.

Hello! And guess what? I'm not Allen!

What is this? Ah, panic attack! I'm Hope.

We are a little bit different. I am his daughter. And just a little bit about me, I've actually been editing this podcast for about a year and a half now.

So if you've been liking the edits, that's me. We decided that we should have more voices on Savory Salt. So here I am.

He is okay, don't worry. And I'm so excited! So today we are going to get our verse from the Book of Mormon.

So I was reading the Book of Mormon, and I was like, 'Hey, this kind of connects! This could work! Woohoo!' So I decided to share it today.

So I don't know about you, but when I heard that this year was going to be the Old Testament, I was terrified. I was like, 'Oh no, now we're going to get into all of the random stuff and this is three cubits wide and three feet or whatever.' And I was kind of scared. I was like, 'I don't know the Old Testament very well.

What am I going to do?' But then I was reading, and I was like, 'Hey, I can do Book of Mormon. This is good.' So today we are going to read in 2 Nephi chapter 13, and it is going to be verse 10. And it says, "Say unto the righteous that it is well with them, for they shall eat the fruit of their doings." As I was reading this, I was like, 'Wait a minute.

The Old Testament has plenty of examples where they do good things, and good things come from it. And then they do not-so-good things, and not-so-good things come from it.' And I was like, 'This is perfect!' It reminded me of a hobby or a thing that I do: I play the violin. So when I first started, I was like, 'Oh, I don't need to practice that much.

It's just, you know, whenever I feel like it, and it'll be fine. That's what everyone else is doing. It's fine.' And then we got some really hard music, and I was like, 'Oh crap, I'm not going to be able to do this with just a few practices.' So then I was like, 'Okay, I'm going to set a limit or a goal,' that's what it's called, of how many practices I want to do.

So my goal was like a hundred or something. And so I only had like a few months, so like two or three months. And so I was marking like two practices average a day.

And that got my performance like way, way higher. And I was like, 'Yes, let's do this all the time!' And so that kind of reminds me of this verse, of like, 'Hey, if you do good things, good things will come from it.' And just like I took time to practice good things, and I played well, and it all came together. And it got me thinking about, 'Are we prepared for the Second Coming?' And just like I had to put in the good work for the good performance, we have to put in the good acts in order to be prepared for him to come.

We will get good things from the good things we do, even if it's just a smile here, a wave there, a friendly hello, something like that. Even if it's just that, good things will come from it. And so, yeah, I'm so excited to continue this year in Savory Salt.

And that's all for today, my friends. You and I have come here for such a time as this. Step forward in faith, and let's be Savory Salt. We'll be here tomorrow, and we hope you are, too.
