In Matthew 5:13, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, a bold reminder that our lives are meant to carry His flavor, His truth, and His love to the world. Join me each day to explore one verse of scripture and one thought, striving to stay full of savor and truly live as Savory Salt. Hello, my friends.
It's great to have you with me. Today, let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness. What's your favorite Article of Faith?
That one's a tough one for me. We're reading this week the Articles of Faith, as well as Official Declarations 1 and 2, and Ether chapters 8 through 11. Your favorite Article of Faith is a tough one for me.
I can remember when I was younger, it was. Articles of Faith have different meanings to you. If you like the Atonement and the steps of the Atonement, you're going to like the front end of the Articles of Faith.
If you like priesthood authority specific to Articles of Faith. But I do believe that it sets the ground not just for the rest of our look here in Savory Salt this week, but also I think it sets the ground for the modern world in which we live. So we're going to take a look at Article of Faith Number Nine.
We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God. Now, if you take each one of these phrases individually, there's a lot of believing going on in a core concept. We believe all that God has revealed.
That concept right there tells you that really, at our core, we believe God reveals things to people. We believe in the concept of revelation. We believe that He reveals in the past.
We believe that He reveals in the present. We believe that He reveals in the future. And all of this revelation deals with the important aspects of the Kingdom of God here on the earth.
Now, one of the things I love about Verse 9 is that when Joseph Smith writes this, he doesn't know what else is coming down the pipe in terms of the revelations of God. And so if we look at last week, for example, with Doctrine and Covenants Section 138 and the revelation of the spirit world and Christ ministering in the spirit world, that's not going to come until 70-80 years after Joseph Smith is gone. And yet we're going to have it as a revelation to us.
Think about "the proclamation of the family" or think about "the proclamation of the restoration." These aspects, these components, are all part of a living, breathing organization that all stems off the concept in revelation. Now, what does that mean for you and for me? What does it mean for us to follow a prophet that we believe receives revelation, ongoing, open-ended revelation, from the Lord?
How does that change the way you view the words of the prophets? Does it change the way you view the words of the prophets? I think an introspective look here of the Articles of Faith gives us an opportunity to, it's been a while since we had this, but to do a bit of a checkup from the neck up for each one of us.
Where's our testimony when it comes to these core beliefs, these core pillars? I'm grateful for ongoing prophecy. I'm grateful for the Lord being willing to reveal to us.
I know that I have experienced revelation, not in a visionary sense, so to speak, but real nonetheless. I know that the Lord has given me the opportunity to know of truth revealed to me, and I'm grateful for it. My friends, because the Lord reveals, what does it mean for you and for me?
If He has revealed in the past, if He reveals now and continues to reveal in the future, what does it mean for you and for me as we continue to follow prophets, seers, and revelators in the Church today? Something worth taking some time to think into. That's all for today, my friends.
Lift up your hearts and rejoice. Cleave into the covenants you have made, and together we will be Savory Salt.
