Join Allen Roberds in a reflection on Doctrine and Covenants 117:4, exploring the Lord's profound question, "What is property unto me?" This episode delves into the eternal tension between temporal possessions and spiritual devotion, challenging listeners to consider what true "property" we can offer the Lord—our hearts, agency, and covetous desires.

Key Points

  • Allen Roberds reflects on Doctrine and Covenants 117:4, where the Lord asks, "What is property unto me?"
  • The episode explores the tension between seeking temporal things and building the kingdom of God, as the Saints were commanded to acquire land and build temples.
  • The host suggests that the truest "property" we can give the Lord includes our desires, covenants, relationship, hearts, and agency, which are gifts He cannot compel.
  • Listeners are challenged to repent of all sins and covetous desires, aligning their hearts with the Lord's will.
  • The core message emphasizes that while temporal means are important for building the church, the ultimate focus is on the state of our hearts and our spiritual alignment with God.

Our desires, our covenants we make with him, our relationship with him, our hearts, our very agency is really ultimately the one thing that he can't take that we have to give. Our agency.

In Matthew 5.13, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, a bold reminder that our lives are meant to carry his flavor, his truth, and his love to the world. Join me each day to explore one verse of scripture and one thought, striving to stay full of savor and truly live as savory salt. Hello my friends, it's great to have you with me.

Today let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness. What could we possibly give to the Lord? We've been reading this week Doctrine and Covenants sections 115 through 120 as well as 3rd Nephi chapters 11 through 14 with the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ to the Nephites.

We're going to take another look inside of Doctrine and Covenants today as we continue inside of our reading. We're going to move past Doctrine and Covenants 116, which is the naming of Adam on diomond. I'll let you do some research and investigate that on your own time.

We going to look instead in Doctrine and Covenants section 117 This has an interesting verse inside of it as the Lord is trying to help the brethren still understand the difference in seeking spiritual things versus temporal things especially with his commandments to build his houses and acquire the land needed for the saints and such It's leaving the brethren in between, you know, go get stuff, have land, have property, versus build up the kingdom of God. And I think this offers an interesting insight for each of us here. It's in Doctrine and Covenants section 117 verse 4.

The Lord says, Let them repent of all their sins and of all their covetous desires before me, saith the Lord. For what is property unto me, saith the Lord. Now there's an interesting aspect there as we take a look at that.

What is property to the Lord? He created everything. He is the creator.

So when we really get down to it, is it really about owning the temples or owning the churches or owning the land? And so as I got thinking about it I made my own little list here And as I made the list I kind of landed on perhaps a conclusion of the list here But I thought what is property to the Lord I thought well if I was thinking about this a little differently our desires our covenants we make with him, our relationship with him, our hearts, our very agency is really ultimately the one thing that he can't take that we have to give. Our agency, And I am not Than lifted up.

I love the question the Lord's posed there and so I'll give you the challenge that I took myself. Your answers could be the same they could be different as you think into it but what is property unto the Lord And what property do you possibly have to give him Because I think what he trying to say in Doctrine and Covenants here is brethren it important to make sure that we have the temporal means available to help build the church But it not what it about at the end of the day It about making sure that our hearts are in alignment with the Lord So my friends take some time Decide what property means to you and what it means to give your property unto the Lord As he challenges each one of us to repent of our sins, repent of our covetous desires, and ultimately understand the property the Lord's trying to help us understand. That's all for today, my friends.

Lift up your hearts and rejoice. Cleave unto the covenants you have made, and together we will be savory salt. For more information, visit us at www.fema.org.
