In Matthew 5:13, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, a bold reminder that our lives are meant to carry his flavor, his truth, and his love to the world. Join me each day to explore one verse of scripture and one thought, striving to stay full of savor and truly live as savory salt. Hello my friends, it's great to have you with me.
Today let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness. You ever had that feeling where you're a little bit awkward because you're choosing the right? What?
Let's talk about it today. We've been reading this week Doctrine and Covenants sections 111 through 114, as well as 3 Nephi chapters 6 through 10. And as I mentioned, I know it was a long one.
I don't usually do long ones that length, but it was a good one. At least I needed to hear myself say it. We're looking this week again in 3 Nephi chapter 7.
Today specifically I should say, not this week. Our verse for today is 3 Nephi chapter 7 verse 18. And we see what happening with Nephi during all of this separation.
And all of these tribes Nephi is going to go and he going to preach. And here the results of his preaching. Verse 18 says, And it came to pass that they were angry with him, even because he had greater power than they.
For it was not possible that they could disbelieve his words. For so great was his faith on the Lord Jesus Christ that angels did minister unto him daily. Now I gotta be honest, I've read that verse, I don't even know how many times and I love at the end how his faith is so great that angels ministered unto him daily.
I love that and I've always just read that verse and been like, so cool Nephi, well played. Good job for having angels minister unto you every day. This time it caught me differently.
Did you realize what it says before that? The people are angry with him because he has greater power than they. This is a Laman and Lemuel and Nephi moment.
This is jealousy because of his obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ. This is a frustration that only comes from Satan. This is a frustration that misery needs other misery around it and cannot stand to be around joy and light and love.
But did you also catch in there the phrase that they said, 'for it was not possible that they could disbelieve his words'? They're actually believing Nephi and they hate it. Isn't that fascinating?
My friends, we have an opportunity to bear testimony of Jesus Christ. We are here today to stand unashamed of that testimony and to do so whether it's with other members of the Church, non-members, friends, family, whoever it may be. And we may face at times an awkward feeling.
Perhaps we wonder if it's the right time to bear our testimony. Maybe we wonder if the group's going to not like us because of the choices we make or the obedience we're trying to have. But look at what happens here.
Nephi is blessed with the ministering of angels daily because of his faith. While he faces a crowd angry because of his power, jealous because of it, that crowd cannot disbelieve what is happening. They are simply frustrated that it is not happening to them.
So for you and for me today, I am not trying to say let's be better than everybody else. I am trying to say let's be the best version of ourselves and let what others think about us fall to the side. Let's go forward, do the best we possibly can, show our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and allow others' opinions to fall on us, whatever they may be.
That's a tough cookie to swallow sometimes. Let's allow the opinion of Jesus Christ to be the most important opinion in our lives. That's all for today my friends.
Lift up your hearts and rejoice. Cleave to the covenants you have made and together we will be savory salt. Louise Yerberman.com
