In Matthew 5:13, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, a bold reminder that our lives are meant to carry his flavor, his truth, and his love to the world. Join me each day to explore one verse of scripture and one thought, striving to stay full of savor and truly live as savory salt. Hello, my friends.
It's great to have you with me. Today, let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness. Who is Lyman Sherman and how can we learn from him?
I was going to wrap up our conversations from Doctrine and Covenants 106–108 yesterday as I finished 107:99, but 108 just grabbed me and I've got to share one more inside of that. So we will get to our readings, Helaman 13–16. And yes, I know that means that it's only leaving us two days for Samuel the Lamanite and his prophesying.
But always remember that you can go into season one where we dive in, you know, day by day in the Book of Mormon. And you can always go and see what we talked about inside of there. If you're looking for those teachings with Helaman, by the way, in season one, you're looking at like episodes 274 to, I don't know, 280 or something like that.
Somewhere around there, 274–280 would get you some more Samuel the Lamanite if you want more there. I just couldn't resist diving into Section 108 because I think it's a beautiful section actually. And it is specific to Lyman Sherman.
And as always, we're gonna try and liken the scriptures unto ourselves here. I love the beginning of this where he receives forgiveness from our Father in heaven, from the Lord, right? And he gets this forgiveness of his sins and the counsel he receives in the opening verses there.
Perhaps some time for you and me to kind of think about our own repentance and our own experiences with forgiveness from the Lord. I love his counsel there. And then we get to Verse seven, so timely for our day.
I hope Lyman lived this counsel and I hope I can live it too. I hope you see some desire to live it in your life as well. Doctrine and Covenants 108:7 is our verse for today.
Verse seven says this: "Strengthen your brethren in all your conversation, in all your prayers, in all your exhortations, and in all your doings." My friends, what would our conversations look like if the focus was to strengthen those around us? I think it's a timely message indeed for all of us as we watch the world around us divide, divide as we watch it go into chaos, hatred, frustration, confusion, anger, angst. Perhaps you've felt some of those feelings.
Perhaps you feel them regularly. I love the counsel here to Lyman, and I think it is a great opportunity for us. First of all, let's give kudos to Lyman.
He did exactly what we talked about yesterday in 107:99. This section exists because he went and said, 'Please, can I have some revelation on what my duty is?' My friends, you and I can seek that. Seek revelation on your duty.
And then this is the counsel he received. And what amazing counsel is it for all of us? What if all of our conversations were focused on strengthening others around us?
All of our prayers, everything we did and said was focused on trying to uplift, help lighten the burdens of the others around us? I do think that we would find quite a shift in society. And yes, I do believe that it absolutely can start inside every one of us.
This verse has been very meaningful to me over the last couple of days and I want to be better at it. I want to seek to strengthen, strengthen all that I come in contact with through my conversation, my prayers, my exhortations, and all that I do. I hope you have such a desire as well.
That's all for today, my friends. Lift up your hearts and rejoice. Cleave unto the covenants you have made and together we will be savory salt.
