In Matthew 5:13, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, a bold reminder that our lives are meant to carry his flavor, his truth, and his love to the world. Join me each day to explore one verse of scripture and one thought, striving to stay full of savor and truly live as savory salt. Hello, my friends.
It's great to have you with me. Today, let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness. My friends, how much time do we give the Lord?
Welcome to a new week and a new reading this week. And it's one that's got me thinking already. And you're like, oh no, on the front end of the week?
Yes, on the front end of the week. Welcome to the week. We are reading Doctrine and Covenants 106-108.
We're going to have some great conversations about the priesthood of God, the authority and power this week, and I'm excited to dive into that. We're also reading Helaman chapters 13-16 this week. We're going to dive in inside of our reading.
Our verse for today comes before 107, which is really this. 107 is a phenomenal section to focus on. Not just how the priesthood works, and I want to kind of mental note that. We actually going to look very few verses, if any, on the actual workings of the priesthood.
Instead, we going to focus on the power and authority of what it is and what it can be in our lives. But our verse for today comes before that in Doctrine and Covenants section 106. And this one an interesting section.
It quite short, but it is the calling of Oliver Cowdery older brother Warren. And the Lord is calling him to the work. And we get inside of here, verses 1, 2, and 3 are all one sentence.
And we're going to dive into the third verse here in verse 3. So understand that you'll want to get the full context in verses 1 and 2 as the Lord is calling Warren to the work. But this is what he says in verse 3: Now, did you catch that last piece there?
I love this because the Lord's saying, hey, I promise you put all your energy into this high and holy calling. You're absolutely going to have all things added unto you because of the work that you're doing. Now, what does that mean for us?
Well, I've recently been spending time in President Nelson's talks. It was recently, as of these recordings, it was recently his 101st. Kind of going through these.
Do you remember when he spoke first time as a prophet to the youth? He had a youth devotional, a huge devotional. And at this youth event, it was he gave a talk called "Hope of Israel," and his wife spoke, and then he spoke, but he said something really interesting in that.
This is when he called the youth of the church to join the Lord's Youth Battalion. I don't know if you remember this super powerful five things to do and to and to to join the battalion. It's this paragraph I wanted to share in thoughts of this calling of Warren and what it means for us.
It says: "Nothing else compares in importance. Nothing else compares in majesty. And if you choose to, if you want to, you can be a big part of it.
You can be a big part of something big, something grand, something majestic." Now, my friends, did you hear the connection between what Warren was invited to do by the Lord and what President Nelson's inviting our youth and by extension, I think us as well, to do in the work? Let's dive into this. Let's devote our whole time to this.
Now for those of you sitting there and saying, "Wait, I got school, I have my job, I got that," okay, right? The Lord wants us to take care of ourselves physically and secularly as well. But my friends, how much time do we have really where we could devote to our Heavenly Father?
In fact, in that talk of "Hope of Israel," President Nelson gave several examples, right? Perhaps you could put down the game over here and spend a little time in FamilySearch over there. Perhaps you could change one of the hangout nights that you have with your friends and head over to the temple.
It's interesting, my daughter's just recently had a quick text message from a friend that said, "Hey, I don't have an appointment, but do you want to go to the temple tonight?" And off they went. They all jumped in their dresses and took off for the night. I love the call that the Lord is giving to all of us.
The gathering of Israel is in motion. We are being invited to join the team. How much time should we spend with the Lord?
How much time can we give Him? My friends, my answer is give Him as much as you possibly can, because He absolutely will take care of all of the other things in our lives as we do so. That's all for today, my friends.
Lift up your hearts and rejoice. Cleave into the covenants you have made, and together we will be savory salt. For more information, visit us at www.fema.org.
