In Matthew 5:13, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, a bold reminder that our lives are meant to carry his flavor, his truth, and his love to the world. Join me each day to explore one verse of scripture and one thought, striving to stay full of savor and truly live as savory salt. Hello, my friends.

It's great to have you with me. Today, let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness. Let's talk about our families today.

We're reading this week Doctrine and Covenants sections 98 through 101. They are extremely powerful verses, at least they have been for me as I've gone through those sections. We're also reading Helaman 3-7, and we will get to that as we get to the tail end of the week.

We're going to continue on in our Doctrine and Covenants readings and move into Doctrine and Covenants section 100. Right off the beginning of it, there, we have Joseph and Sidney quite concerned about their families as they've been out preaching and working and they have their own concerns about what's happening. And the Lord responds directly to them.

And I want to take a look at our verse for today and see what it means for us and our families. It is Doctrine and Covenants section 100, verse 1, it says: Verily thus saith the Lord unto you, my friends, Sidney and Joseph, your families are well. They are in mine hands, and I will do with them as seemeth me good, for in me there is all power.

Now, are you starting to catch the messages that the Lord has inside of these sections, specifically during this difficult time that the saints are dealing with very, very violent circumstances? They are losing furniture, homes. They are spread out across, you know, a thousand miles apart as the church grows.

So they can't immediately get to each other. The Lord knew that Sidney and Joseph were working as hard as they possibly could to build the kingdom and then gave them this promise. And I think it's a reminder for you and for me in terms of where we put our focus and our emphasis.

As we work to build the kingdom of God, the Lord will take care of us and our families as well. I love the part that he says, they're in mine hands and I will do with them as seemeth me good. For in me there is all power.

So whether you have struggled with a challenge in sending a loved one off to a mission, off to school, off to university. Perhaps they just moved to another city and you no longer have that daily interaction with them, pray to the Lord. Let him know of your fears.

Let him know of the worries that you have for those loved ones and see if he doesn't respond to something very similar to what he responded here for Sidney and Joseph. I know I experienced that in my life as I sent my oldest daughter, you know, as she chose to go on her mission. She comes closer and closer every day to the tail end of that mission.

And yet there been times where my wife and I have been able to only pray for her and do nothing else to help her in her time of need. It's certainly been a faith growing experience for my wife and I as we've turned to the Lord and put her in his hands and allowed the Lord to tell us and remind us that things are going to be all right. My friends, the Lord loves us.

He is mindful of us and our families as well. That's all for today, my friends. Lift up your hearts and rejoice.

Cleave unto the covenants you have made and together we will be savory salt. Copyright © 2020, New Thinking Allowed Foundation
