In Matthew 5:13, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, a bold reminder that our lives are meant to carry his flavor, his truth, and his love to the world. Join me each day to explore one verse of scripture and one thought, striving to stay full of savor and truly live as savory salt. Hello, my friends.

It's great to have you with me. Today, let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness, figurative or literal. That's one of the things I'm kind of pondering myself as we dive into our readings this week.

We are reading Doctrine and Covenants section 93 this week, as well as Alma chapters 57 through 61. And we launched off the week inside of Alma. And now we're going to dive back.

Welcome back into Doctrine and Covenants here. Section 93 is an interesting one because our timing here in terms of the pacing that they've put together for Come Follow Me, it's always interesting to me how they choose which sections go when and where. 93 is not necessarily a long section, although it does have some phrases we're going to take a look at this week that seem to often repeat. And I think there's something that you and I can take from it especially in terms of trying to be a little bit more savory on our path to savory salt.

But before we get to those phrases, which are going to come in our later verses this week, we're going to start right off the beginning of Doctrine and Covenants section 93 inside of verse 1. Because of how clear the Lord is here, it says this. Did you catch that promise?

That is not a light promise. And did you catch that, although the Lord doesn't do this every time, He starts this out with, "Thus saith the Lord." This is direct revelation from the Lord, and he gives us the to-do list to see his face and know that he is. Now I started this off by saying, is that figurative or literal?

And I think the answer can be yes, actually. And you know it's interesting, I was just having a conversation with a friend the other day about kind of American colloquialism, right, versus international. We're not only meaning it as a greeting, we're not really asking like how you doing.

And so others outside of the United States often, if they ask how you doing, they're really legitimately expecting an answer, like, how are things going. Verse 1 is an opportunity for you and for me to sit down and say, "Hey, me, how are you doing?" Because the Lord promises here that every soul that does these things shall see my face and know that I am. In today's world, there is such a push to deny the teachings of Jesus Christ or to deny the church and its teachings.

And it's not everyone by any means, but there's certainly a large contingent that is convinced that there's no possible way for anyone to know whether Jesus Christ is real, whether he's actually the Savior, whether he's actually the Son of God, whether Heavenly Father is truly a God-like being that exists. And yet here we have a direct promise. So, my friends, for you and for me today, it's a chance for us to go through and say, "How you doing?" How are you when it comes to forsaking your sins?

How are you when it comes to turning to Christ? How about calling on his name? How are your prayers?

How's your obedience to the Lord going? How do you listen and obey his voice? These are the requisite actions and things that you and I must do in order to come to that knowledge and ultimately to see his face.

I love this promise on the front end of this because what we're going to dive into this week is not an all or nothing. What we're going to dive into this week is taking time to look a little bit into the step-by-step process that the Lord puts in front of us to get to know him and ultimately receive His fullness. So I am excited for Doctrine and Covenants section 93 as well as the Alma chapters as always.

But as for today, here's a chance for you and for me to look in the mirror and simply say, "How you doing?" And I hope that verse, each one, gives us a few things to consider when we respond back in the mirror to each other. It's all for today, my friends. The Lord loves you.

Lift up your hearts and rejoice. Cleave to the covenants you have made, and together we will be savory salt. For more information, visit us at www.savorysalt.org.
