In Matthew 5:13, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, a bold reminder that our lives are meant to carry his flavor, his truth, and his love to the world. Join me each day to explore one verse of scripture and one thought, striving to stay full of savor and truly live as savory salt. Hello my friends, it's great to have you with me.
Today let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness. We've finished our study this week of Doctrine and Covenants sections 81 through 83, or at least in terms of Savory Salt, and we're going to shift our attention now to our Book of Mormon readings for the week, which is Alma chapters 34 through 38. We continue inside of deep testimony bearing and preaching.
Inside of this missionary work that's been going on with Alma and Amulek and many of the greats that we consider great missionaries from the Book of Mormon. Our verse for today is going to come out of Alma chapter 34 and here's Amulek's chance to bear testimony of Jesus Christ and the importance of the Atonement. It's a very, very powerful chapter.
I love this chapter. And inside of it there a section here that really has me thinking because recently I saw a social media post from President Holland. And my goodness has he just taken on a completely different spirit since really kind of coming back from his sickness and his near experience that he talked openly about.
And so we're going to combine the two of those today as we look at this. Our verse for today is Alma chapter 34 verse 27. Alright, but in fact, these 10 verses of just repeatedly being told by Amulek, cry unto the Lord, cry for these things, cry unto Him, cry unto Him, over and over and over again.
And then it wraps up on 27, or at least this piece wraps up. It says in verse 27, yea, and when you do not cry unto the Lord, let your hearts be full drawn out in prayer unto Him continually for your welfare and also for the welfare. I hear President Holland recently share that one of the reasons he feels he was sent back to this life and he talks openly about being sent back.
One of the reasons was to share his thoughts that we should pray always and what that means. And he shared inside of this social media post that he always thought, you know, saying his morning prayers and his evening prayers and prayers throughout the day for meetings or for, you know, blessing on the food or whatever it may be. That was, you know, praying always.
And he shared inside of there, no, the Lord is asking that we stay in constant contact with Him. And I think we can see that inside of Amulek's suggestions here to the people saying, look, crying to Him, crying to Him for all things. And I love the phrase here, crying to Him.
It's a sign for me to remember that my prayers to the Lord aren't nagging Him. My prayers to the Lord aren't something that He gets bored of hearing. My prayers, my asking for things, my seeking direction, my seeking for repentance, my prayers unto Him are heard and accepted.
My heart can ultimately turn to Him as I continually let my heart be full drawn out in prayer unto Him continually for my welfare and the welfare of those around me. My friends, I think you and I can pray more. I know I can.
I think we can turn to the Lord more often throughout our day. Whether it's crying out unto Him verbally, whether it's doing so in our hearts, whether it's doing so throughout our day. And every hour, it's an opportunity for us to turn our hearts to the Lord and cry unto Him over everything in our lives.
That is such a great call to action for Allen, personally. It's a chance for me to say, hey, get on your knees more. Hey, turn to the Lord more.
Cry unto Him and let Him bless your life more abundantly. That's all for today, my friends. Lift up your hearts and rejoice. Cleave into the covenants you have made and together we will be savory salt.
