In Matthew 5:13, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, a bold reminder that our lives are meant to carry his flavor, his truth, and his love to the world. Join me each day to explore one verse of scripture and one thought, striving to stay full of savor and truly live as savory salt. Hello, my friends.
It's great to have you with me. Today, let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness. Welcome to an exciting new week as we dive further into the Doctrine and Covenants by reading sections 81 through 83, as well as Alma chapters 34 through 38 this week.
If we do our math correctly, I don't know if I'll be able to be this accurate, but if we do our math correctly, we might be able to get a verse from each of our chapters and sections. But let's just start the week off and then see how we go from there. Our verse for today is going to come from the front end of our Doctrine and Covenants reading, which is section 81.
And this one's an interesting section because it was initially given to one gentleman. And then when he chose not to continue on the covenant path, it was switched over to another gentleman. There's an interesting teaching inside of that for all of us to kind of ponder upon in terms of our own choices and The First Presidency of the Church.
And so this is specific to one of those counselors and Verse 5 is our verse for today. It says, "Wherefore, be faithful, stand in the office which I have appointed unto you, succor the weak, lift up the hands which hang down, and strengthen the feeble knees." I love this one because first off, right off the beginning, we get a reminder to be faithful. How interesting it is that the Lord said that to one of these brothers who did not remain faithful and then replaced him and said, "Hey, next faithful man up, here's your calling." But then we get these three pieces in here to succor, lift up, and strengthen.
And this one's an interesting one because I think sometimes as members of the church, sometimes we have these moments. We are going to take a moment to reflect on the inside of this verse. Sometimes we may be the weak, but there's always a chance for us to find those that are weaker and succor them.
Perhaps there are days where our hands hang down and yet we have an opportunity to lift up the hands which hang down. Perhaps there's others that are experiencing it worse than we are. And then strengthening those feeble knees, I think about people that are perhaps, and we have an opportunity to reach out to them as well.
My friends, if you're feeling like you're the one that's down and out, I would encourage you to take the advice of Verse 5 here and seek to help others. Because it's through seeing others' challenges that helps us realize the blessings that we have in our lives. Nick Vujicic was certainly one of those experiences for me as I saw him speak on stage, basically walking around with no arms and no legs and telling his story that we can all be amazing, that we all are amazing in the eyes of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
I love that message and I'm grateful that the Lord knows that as we're doing our best, we have the ability to succor, lift up, and strengthen those around us as we step into and are faithful in the areas that we've been appointed. That's all for today, my friends. Lift up your hearts and rejoice.
