In Matthew 5:13, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, a bold reminder that our lives are meant to carry his flavor, his truth, and his love to the world. Join me each day to explore one verse of scripture and one thought, striving to stay full of savor and truly live as savory salt. Hello, my friends.
Great to have you with me. Today, let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness. I gotta say, as we go through all of these readings this week, forgive me if it's a little bit scattered here and there.
Sometimes I find this thread that I pull throughout the entire week and other times it seems like these are just individual verses that pop out and maybe today it's just an individual verse. But either way, I am excited for the readings as we've been going through these here. We're in Doctrine and Covenants sections 51 to 57, long readings inside of there, and Mosiah chapter 26 through Alma chapter 1.
We are moving in the scriptures right now, my friends. And our reading for today, our verse for today, comes inside of Doctrine and Covenants section 52. You know, my girls have asked sometimes in our conversations as a family, "The Doctrine and Covenants has sections where it's just like, how do I apply these ones?
What do I do with these verses?" And that's what some of these verses are inside of section 52 as the Lord is giving mission calls, right? And he's like, "You, you go off to your land, and you go off to your land." And you're reading them and you're kind of like, "That's cool, but what does it mean for me?" One of the verses after all of these mission calls stuck out to me, and that's what I wanted to share with you today. Hopefully it makes some sort of connection.
If it doesn't pull on any thread we've been talking about recently, forgive me, but it's still a thought that I think will help us be a little bit more savory on our adventures in savory salt. Our verse for today is Doctrine and Covenants section 52, verse 33. So he's just got done doing all of these different mission calls, and he says this.
He says, "Yea, verily I say, let all these take their journey unto one place, in their several courses, and one man shall not build upon another's foundation, neither journey in another's track." Now I tried to research this one and this one was a tough one. There's not a lot of, in fact, there's no conference talks on this verse at all, at least that I could find in my research. If you find one, let me know.
And so I was trying to figure out what exactly is the Lord saying here? "One man shall not build upon another's foundation, neither journey in another's track." It got me thinking about one of my all-time favorite young men's leaders, right? Brother John Kickert. John, if you ever hear this episode, know how much I love you and how much I appreciate you as a leader in my life, such a pivotal time in my life in the young men's program.
And I can remember specifically, whether it was a talk in church or whether it was on one of our awesome scouting camp outings, I can remember John regularly telling us we needed to develop our testimonies and our relationships with Heavenly Father. It wasn't about us relying on his testimony. It wasn't about us relying on other leaders' testimonies.
It wasn't about us relying on our parents' testimonies. It was about us finding our relationship with our Heavenly Father and with Jesus Christ. And I think that's a little bit of what this verse is trying to tell us: "One man shall not build upon another's foundation." My friends, your testimony is between you and the Lord.
It is not about your friends' testimony. It's not about how much your friends believe in it or your family believes in it. Sorry, Mom and Dad, but teenagers out there, it's not about what your mom and dad believe.
It's an opportunity for you to build your foundation on Jesus Christ. Wine. How to accomplish this world's Connor Martin.
So it's been more than that now that I think about it. But as we were driving up, I said, "You know, Kira, this is important for you to understand." But I said, "While you're at college, this is now you and you. It's you and the Lord figuring this out." I said, "If you don't wake up to go to church, I'm not here to set your alarm clock.
I'm not here to wake you up. It's you in your dorm room. If you, your dorm mates, right?
If your friends, if they don't go to church, like, it's totally dependent on you now." You have the opportunity to choose to go to the church activities or not. And this is an opportunity for you to step into your relationship with your Savior Jesus Christ. And the interesting thing with that is that it was in Kyra's own time and own relationship that she called us and said, "Hey, Mom and Dad, I've been thinking about going on a mission." And I think that's really interesting.
I'm not saying that everybody that steps into their personal relationships, you're going to have that type of personal insight. But my friends, each one of us has a journey to take. The Lord is there to walk with each one of us on our journey, and it should not be built upon somebody else's foundation.
So if you are struggling with your testimony, you can look at your friends, you can look at your parents for help, but realize that the finding of that testimony is going to rely entirely upon what you choose to do between you and the Lord. I know you can do this. Find your individual strength in your personal testimony with our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
They will answer. That's all for today, my friends. Lift up your hearts and rejoice.
Cleave unto the covenants you have made and together we will be savory salt. We'll see you next time.
