Allen Roberds reflects on Mosiah 8:3, where Ammon explains King Benjamin's profound words to the people of Limhi, ensuring they understood. This episode from the Savory Salt podcast explores the vital role of sharing prophetic messages and being prepared to testify of living prophets and apostles in our daily lives, particularly when engaging with those unfamiliar with the Church or its teachings.

Key Points

  • Ammon diligently explained King Benjamin's powerful teachings to the people of King Limhi in Mosiah 8:3, highlighting the importance of clear communication for understanding.
  • The episode challenges listeners to prepare how they would explain the messages of living prophets and apostles to someone new to the Church or its current teachings.
  • Understanding and regularly sharing personal testimonies of current prophetic messages is presented as a powerful opportunity for all members to spread truth.
  • Mosiah chapters 8-11 introduce a pivotal historical shift, with chapter 8 serving as a temporal bridge before the narrative rewinds to the story of Zeniff, King Noah, and the impending arrival of Abinadi.

I hope to be able to tell anyone that asks my understanding of what the prophet and apostles are asking me to do today and then bear testimony that the words that they speak are true.

In Matthew 5:13, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, a bold reminder that our lives are meant to carry his flavor, his truth, and his love to the world. Join me each day to explore one verse of scripture and one thought, striving to stay full of savor and truly live as savory salt. Hello, my friends.

Great to have you with me. Today, let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness. While Doctrine and Covenants sections 41-44 have been quite an adventure, because we're here at the end of the week, I need to spend a couple of days in the Book of Mormon.

And I should say, I don't need to, I want to. And I've been trying to determine the balance here on four days, three days, five days inside of Doctrine and Covenants versus moving to the Book of Mormon. But alas, we're going to move on these last couple of days in the week into the Book of Mormon because this is a pivotal shift into a historical piece in our verses we're reading in our chapters.

The Book of Mormon reading for this week, if you haven't done it yet, is Mosiah chapters 8-11. And chapter 8 is interesting because it's actually further advanced in time. 8 is kind of this last piece between Ammon and the people of Limhi before we go into a rewind. Chapters 9-11 go into a rewind where we're talking about Zeniff and his transfer into where they're living and what happens with him and the people.

And we get into King Noah and his wickedness, and that's going to lead us into Abinadi. That's where we're going. But chapter 8 is important because it's letting us know that Ammon and Limhi are reconnecting and they're getting caught up.

Now consider this context for just a second. Zeniff, when he left and those people left, they left like the main body of believers. They left the main body of the Church.

And so they go a couple of generations, right, two, three generations away from the Church. And then Ammon shows up and King Limhi is like, wait a second, tell us about all the things that have happened. And Ammon tries to tell him the story, but then verse 3 comes into play.

And that's, that's what I want to share with us today. Verse 3 says, and he also rehearsed unto them the last words, which King Benjamin had taught them and explained them to the people of King Limhi, so that they might understand all the words which he spake. Now this doesn't seem like a very flashy verse, and yet I absolutely love it.

I love it for the context of missionaries and missionary work, but I also love it for the context of what it can mean for you and for me as we go forward and meet people that have either been out of the Church for a while or have never heard of the Church. Here's what I mean by that. Ammon had the opportunity to tell them the last words of King Benjamin.

Do you remember what those were? That's Mosiah chapters 2-5. That's this incredible talk.

It's a great like general conference talk, right? It's like a whole, it's like instead of an article, it's like a whole magazine, right? And Ammon gets to share that with them because they've been away.

So my friends, if you and I were to meet someone that hadn't been in the Church for a long time, or they didn't even know that a living prophet was a thing, and they turned to you and they said, "Wow, catch me up!" What has the prophet been saying? How would you respond? And that's your thinking activity for today.

I want you to really think into this. I'm not going to tell you my answers. I want you to think into what it is for your answers.

What would you explain the prophet and apostles have been teaching us today? What have you heard them say? What messages do they keep repeating?

And what do you want to share with those that you come across? It's such a great opportunity for us to keep in our minds that we have an opportunity to share regularly the testimonies of living prophets and apostles. That gets me excited.

It makes me want to make sure that I know what they're saying. What are they asking me to do so that I can continue to share that message? I love that Ammon is prepared and knows what to tell the people of King Limhi here.

It says to me that Ammon was listening when King Benjamin spoke. I hope to be able to tell anyone that asks my understanding of what the prophet and apostles are asking me to do today and then bear testimony that the words that they speak are true. That's an opportunity for us to help others understand the words of the Lord as well.

And I love that. That's all for today, my friends. Lift up your hearts and rejoice. Cleave unto the covenants you have made, and together we will be savory salt.
