In Matthew 5:13, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, a bold reminder that our lives are meant to carry his flavor, his truth, and his love to the world. Join me each day to explore one verse of scripture and one thought, striving to stay full of savor and truly live as savory salt. Hello my friends, great to have you with me.
Today let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness. Quick question for you today, what kind of Christ do you believe in? Now that might seem like a loaded question behind it, and yet it's very important to understand.
Today I hope our verse for this day gives you a little bit of insight to the Christ that I believe in. We're gonna have a little mini story time here. Before we dive into reading, you are reading this week Doctrine and Covenants section 19 as well as 2 Nephi chapters 15 through 18.
It's interesting here, maybe you've experienced what I'm about to share here for just a second. We'll do story time, then we'll get to our verse for today. But there's been several times where friends or acquaintances or people that are strangers that we're just having a nice conversation, find out that I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and have some sort of hesitancy around calling me Christian and start asking questions directly about my belief in Jesus Christ.
I think Doctrine and Covenants 19, well, first of all, several places inside of Doctrine and Covenants should make it very clear the type of Jesus Christ we believe in. He is living. He is all-powerful.
He is truly the one who has atoned for the sins of the world. And as such he directs and leads and guides this Church. Now, my response inside of that is quite interesting as we talk back and forth about, I didn't know there were different kinds of Christ to believe in until I started to understand that people do see Jesus Christ through different lenses.
Some see him as a wonderful leader. Some see him as an enlightened being that came to earth and was enlightened and taught enlightened teachings, but fell short of deity. Some saw him as the Son of God or reincarnate of God, or that kind of lens that he was God on earth, but now he's God in heaven, and that type of idea.
And so as I kind of have better understood different Christians' points of view, I realize that we do all kind of have a different lens of Jesus Christ. I believe that it's one of the greatest blessings that comes from the Doctrine and Covenants. And that is, there are several sections in the Doctrine and Covenants, most of them, that are directly the words of a living, breathing Jesus Christ, a resurrected being directing his prophets and apostles and leaders of the Church.
And I think our verse for today is a perfect and beautiful example of that. It's Doctrine and Covenants, section 19, verse 1. And I encourage you to read 1, 2, and 3 with it as you're going to be reading through the week.
But take some time to read 1, 2, and 3 together. But it says this, I am Alpha and Omega, Christ the Lord, yea, even I am He, the beginning and the end, the Redeemer of the world. The Christ that I believe in is all-powerful.
He is not bound to the logic or understanding of men. And as such, I can turn to him and receive guidance and direction in my life. As an all-powerful being, he's someone I can also trust to help me in my greatest challenges.
And even in my times of temptation, as he is also the Redeemer of the world, the Savior here to save. I see him as a being that because he is all-powerful can decide whether it's time for prophets and apostles to walk the earth again or not. And he is not bound to books or verses of the Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants.
I get it. Do you have challenges with all of the hesitancies in your own faith? I get it.
Do you have challenges with what you should repent about? I get it. The Lord is trying to say, I get it all.
I understand all of it. And for me, it is a great strength to turn to that Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and seek to repent and to align my will with him. This is truly the Christ that I believe in.
That's all for today my friends. Lift up your hearts and rejoice. Cleave unto the covenants you have made and together we will be savory salt.
