In Matthew 5:13, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, a bold reminder that our lives are meant to carry his flavor, his truth, and his love to the world. Join me each day to explore one verse of scripture and one thought, striving to stay full of savor and truly live as savory salt. Hello, my friends.
It is great to have you with me. Today let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness. Today we're going to be diving into Doctrine and Covenants again as we're reading sections 12 through 17 this week.
And I know yesterday we did a Doctrine and Covenants section 13 moment, but today really if I'm reading through, I like to read these ones like 13 is kind of this moment, 12, 14, 15, 16. Yes, these are revelations to different people, but there's a lot of similarities inside of them. And so our verse is going to come from Doctrine and Covenants section 12 today, but you're going to see one very similar like unto it in Doctrine and Covenants section 14.
And I thought if these are repeating ideas, maybe we should dive into it and see what it means for us. So our verse for today is going to be Doctrine and Covenants section 12, verse 1. These verses are really kind of interesting.
These sections are really interesting, actually, because we are now getting to the stage where individuals are coming to Joseph Smith and asking for revelations specific to them. And yes, that had been happening a little bit before, but it really had been kind of these key players with Oliver Cowdery and Martin Harris, right? Now we're starting to see others, David Whitmer being one of those, which is going to be the third of the three witnesses to the plates, right?
The Golden Plates. And yet, interesting here, with these individuals seeking the will of the Lord, we have some messages that are similar. So it seems like the Lord's going to be saying, "Hey, those of you that are looking and asking for what role you want to play, let me tell you something here." So our verse two says this: "Behold, I am God.
Give heed to my word." The Bible says, "The word of God is a word which is quick and powerful, sharper than a two-edged sword, to the dividing asunder of both joints and marrow." Therefore, give heed unto my word. Now, this one may not come across as one that's like saying, "Hey, let's be a little more savory." And yet I think there is something inside of this that can help us out. First of all, if you follow the one footnoted word here, it's "word," right?
And it takes you over to Hebrews, I think, what is it? 4:12 or something like that. We're not going to read that because we've already done our verse for today. But inside of Hebrews 4:12, you actually get a Greek translation of the word "quick." And the Greek translation is "living." Now listen to the beginning of that when we add "living" rather than "quick" to it: "Behold, I am God.
Give heed to my word, which is living and powerful." My friends, that completely changes the context, in my opinion. It helps me to buy in even more and have faith in even more that the heavens are open because the word of God is living and the Bible is a powerful word. It is powerful.
That means that our God today speaks in a living manner, not in a dead manner. And then it goes into this kind of interesting symbolism, sharper than a two-edged sword to the dividing asunder of both joints and marrow. My friends, yes, the sword is an interesting choice to use, but think about the power of this.
This living and powerful word is going to permeate beyond the physical world. We'd love to hear from you if you want to get yourocala.com. God bless you so much.
