In Matthew 5:13, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, a bold reminder that our lives are meant to carry his flavor, his truth, and his love to the world. Join me each day to explore one verse of scripture and one thought, striving to stay full of savor and truly live as savory salt. Hello, my friends.

Great to have you with me. Today, let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness. Welcome to Day 21.

Today, we're going to be continuing our reading inside of Doctrine and Covenants section 2, just in case you didn't get those three verses read yesterday. And Joseph Smith—History 1:27–65. That one's a little bit more hefty of reading.

Today I found a secret inside of savory salt and I'm so excited to share it with you. You see, I get to share one verse of scripture from Joseph Smith—History that actually covers two verses of scripture from Doctrine and Covenants section 2. Yeah, I figured out how to do it.

So today let's take a look at Joseph Smith—History 1:39 and just in case you happen to have Doctrine and Covenants, "And the hearts of the children shall turn to their fathers. If it were not so, the whole earth would be utterly wasted at his coming." Now, initially you're hearing this and maybe even Joseph's hearing this and going, I'm sorry, what? Excuse me, can you help me see that?

And yet, interestingly enough, Doctrine and Covenants section 2 is a very well-quoted section when referring to this turning of the hearts of the fathers to their children and the children to the fathers. We're going to find out that through the restoration of all the different priesthoods, priesthood powers, keys, and authorities, we have one that is the sealing power. The power of the Lord's power is to make families eternal.

Family relationships can go beyond the grave and can be eternal in nature. In fact, it's referred to as part of the Lord's own mission, right? Is to make sure to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.

That comes through the sealing together of families. I love that in Doctrine and Covenants section 2. As I done research before, as I told you guys about how I like to research conference talks in kind of in parallel to the scriptures, President Nelson has referenced Doctrine and Covenants 2 at least by my count over his time as an apostle at least seven different times inside of his conference talks.

I wanted to share a quick story with you that helped me realize what this does when it comes to decision making and how it changes the lens of my life. I was a ward mission leader and I was teaching at the time, this has been several years ago now, but I was a ward mission leader teaching at the time a class that was called "Gospel Principles." We're going to be talking about the principles and basically kind of a gospel fundamentals class. And the idea was that anyone that was kind of new to the church or didn't understand things about the church or anything like that, or just members that just wanted to kind of go back to the principles and fundamentals would come to that class during the Sunday school hour.

And inside of it, we had a new family, the mom and the dad that had just been baptized. And we were talking about eternal marriage. And she said something that made the class go a totally different way.
