In Matthew 5:13, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth, a bold reminder that our lives are meant to carry his flavor, his truth, and his love to the world. Join me each day to explore one verse of scripture and one thought, striving to stay full of savor and truly live as savory salt. Hello, my friends.

Great to have you with me. Today, let's be anxiously engaged in a good cause and bring to pass much righteousness. Welcome back as we continue our thoughts for Doctrine and Covenants Section 1.

And this will be our final one for this week inside of Doctrine and Covenants Section 1. So if you have forgotten, or this is kind of a midweek check here, we're also going to be reading the Book of Mormon in 1 Nephi chapter 1. So verse 37 says, "Search these commandments, for they are true and faithful, and the prophecies and promises which are in them shall all be fulfilled." Now, one of the things I wanted to mention with this one, I debated about this and verse six, because today we call this book Doctrine and Covenants.

And over the years it has been rehashed and reformulated and edited and added to and subtracted from like it's modern revelation. And so it's modern scripture. So it gets edited as the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and the First Presidency work on that.

And yet, interestingly enough, inside of Section 1 here, the Lord calls these commandments. Now, he also calls them Doctrine and Covenants as well, but in verse, you see him call this a book of commandments. And here in verse 37, he says to us, "Search these commandments." And I think it's a great lens for us to consider the Doctrine and Covenants in all three of what it was originally termed: Commandments, Doctrine, and Covenants.

What a great thing to remember here, because as the Lord is trying to guide his people today, he's doing so by providing for us an understanding through the doctrine. He's providing a path of understanding through the covenants we're making. And he's also providing for us commandments to follow.

He promises here, if we search them, we will see the prophecies and promises fulfilled. That's a great promise! If you want to know where we're headed in the future, this isn't some crystal ball that's going to do that.

This is an opportunity for us to dive in and search these commandments and see where the Lord is going to drive his people, because it's here; it's spelled out for us. And I love that. We talked earlier about living the maze of life.

Well, here's an opportunity to have the roadmap for the maze. And I love the opportunity to combine this with the Book of Mormon so that we truly can have multiple testimonies of the living Savior, Jesus Christ, in our lives. That is savory salt indeed.

That's all for today, my friends. Lift up your hearts and rejoice. Cleave unto the covenants you have made, and together we will be savory salt. Oh, right!
