Day 324 Personal Worthiness Brings Christ's Goodness
Show Notes
In this Savory Salt episode, Allen Roberds explores Mormon 1:15, revealing how personal worthiness allows us to be visited by the Lord and taste of Jesus's goodness, even amidst profound wickedness. Discover how individual righteousness invites the Spirit and God's love into your life, regardless of challenging surroundings.
Key Points
- Mormon lived in an era of extreme wickedness where disciples, miracles, healings, and spiritual gifts were withdrawn from the people.
- Despite his challenging environment, 15-year-old Mormon's personal worthiness and 'sober mind' allowed him to be 'visited of the Lord and tasted and knew of the goodness of Jesus' (Mormon 1:15).
- The episode emphasizes that individual worthiness directly determines our ability to feel the Spirit and receive the Lord's love, independent of external circumstances.
- Listeners are encouraged that the gospel path is never lonely; turning to the Lord ensures His Spirit and support, enabling a personal experience of Christ's goodness.
I love this verse because it shows us that our individual worthiness is what determines whether the Spirit can be with us and whether the Lord can send His love to us.

In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.
Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I'm cheering for your every success. Sometimes, living the gospel of Jesus Christ can be lonely, but is it really?
Welcome to day 324 on our 365 day journey through the Book of Mormon together. Today, we're going to be reading Mormon chapter 1, verses 4 through 19, and begin Mormon chapter 2, verses 1 through 4. Now we're going to find out a lot about Mormon and we're going to find out that his life is a very difficult life indeed.
And as we go through the reading today, I just want to point out three things that are happening in Mormon's day that are very difficult things for him. And then we're going to get to our verse for the day. We find out in the verses leading up to the verse for today that three key things happened leading up to our verse.
In verses 13 and 14, we find out that the people are so wicked that the Lord took away the disciples. So, the three Nephites are no longer allowed to be among the people. And then we find out that miracles and healings stopped.
The people had lost so much faith that there could be no miracles or healings. And then the third thing we find out is that with that environment, there were no longer any spiritual gifts from the Lord. The Holy Ghost couldn't even come and be amongst the people.
Now, there are times in our lives where I think we might find ourselves in these situations sometimes. And then we get to the verse for today, Mormon chapter 1, verse 15. I think this is really cool, with the difficulty that Mormon faces and the messages he's trying to record for us in our day, we get this cool little window of light in this very difficult time where there is no one around to support.
There are no miracles. There are no healings. There is no feeling of the Holy Ghost.
There are no spiritual gifts. Verse 15 comes along: And I, being 15 years of age and being somewhat of a sober mind, therefore I was visited of the Lord and tasted and knew of the goodness of Jesus. I love this verse because it shows us that our individual worthiness is what determines whether the Spirit can be with us and whether the Lord can send His love to us.
And here we have Mormon surrounded in an environment of pure wickedness, so much so that the Holy Ghost can't even be there. And yet, Mormon at 15 years old was sober enough and was worthy enough to be visited of the Lord and tasted and knew of the goodness of Jesus Christ. My friends, the gospel of Jesus Christ doesn't ever have to be a lonely path.
For those days when you feel like you're the only one trying to do the best that you can, turn to the Lord, and He will offer you His Spirit. You will be able to taste and know of the goodness of Jesus Christ in your own life. I can testify of that.
So, on those days where you just feel like you're doing the best you can, but it seems like nobody else is around to support you in that, know that there are absolutely others that are trying to live the gospel of Jesus Christ and know that Jesus Christ will always support His followers and His people. All these are great things that are possible through the power of the Spirit and through His own ability to share His love into your life. What an empowering message in a time where Mormon faced such awful circumstances and yet was able to taste for himself of the goodness of Jesus Christ.
You and I can do so as well. That's all for today, my friends. Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass.
Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow and I hope you are too.
