In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.
Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I'm cheering for your every success. How can we know the things we don't know?
Welcome to day 320 on our 365 day journey through the Book of Mormon together. Today it happens so quickly. We are actually going to read 3 Nephi chapter 28, verses 36 to 40.
We're going to wrap that up. But you're also going to read 3 Nephi chapter 29, and you're also going to read 3 Nephi chapter 30, which is actually going to take you to the end of the book of 3 Nephi. Okay, at the end of the books, I like to have you take a moment and just kind of reflect about what the book has been for you.
And this one, I hope, brings some deep reflection as you dive into the words of Christ and His visitation to the Nephites. What has 3 Nephi been for you? As the front end of 3 Nephi was about the coming of Christ and all of the wickedness and all of the things that happened.
And the back end of 3 Nephi was His visitation to the Nephites, His instructions and His gospel. What does that mean for you going forward? Now our verse for today feeds into that.
There was a couple of places I wanted to pick a few of these, and as always, I have to just pick one of them. But remember, inside of this, that 3 Nephi chapter 30 is Mormon saying, "The Lord Jesus Christ directly told me to write this down." So that's 3 Nephi chapter 30 for you. We're going to look with a little bit different lens at 3 Nephi chapter 28, verse 37.
This is an interesting one, and we'll read it first. Mormon is talking about; He had some questions about the Three Nephites as well, and he's like, "How in the world are they still living?" And this is what we learned inside 37: "But behold, since I wrote, I have inquired of the Lord, and He hath made it manifest unto me that there must needs be a change wrought upon their bodies, or else it needs be that they must taste of death." And then he continues to go forward. And what Mormon's actually telling us here is, he inquired of the Lord of something that he wanted an answer to.
He asked the Lord a question. And what did the Lord do? The Lord answered him.
My friends, I think sometimes we reserve direct questions on direct topics to apostles or prophets, or we say, "Nephi got to have answers" or "Mormon got to have answers," and we don't give ourselves the opportunity to practice the very things that the prophets practice. If we have something specific that we're interested in or we have something that is on our minds or pressing in our hearts, we have the same opportunity to inquire of the Lord with faith in Christ. And through that inquiring, and through our study of the scriptures and our studies of the prophets, we too can have it made manifest unto us.
I love this reminder for us. Mormon just flat out tells us, "I was confused about how the Three Nephites got to continue living." And so I asked the Lord, "How did that work?" And then I got my answer, and there was a change. And then he explains the change that occurs.
My friends, you and I too can inquire of the Lord, take our questions to Him. He is the ultimate source of answers. And that is empowering.
It gives us a place to turn when we're confused, when we don't know, or we simply are wanting to have an answer to the things on our minds. That's all for today, my friends. Remember that "by small and simple things are great things brought to pass." Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow, and I hope you are too.
