In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life, and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.

Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me, and know that I'm cheering for your every success. Don't sell out.

Welcome to day 318 on our 365-day journey through the Book of Mormon together. Today, you're going to be reading 3 Nephi 27, verses 28 to 33. You'll finish those final comments of Jesus Christ to the people.

And you're going to be reading 3 Nephi chapter 28, verses 1 through 12, which seems to be actually quite a sacred ordinance of sorts happening here with Christ and the disciples, as nine of them are guaranteed celestial life, eternal life with Jesus Christ, with him side by side. And so, kind of a cool, whatever it is, like I said, maybe it's an ordinance of sorts that happens there. And I hope you enjoy reading inside of that.

Our verse for today is actually going to come again from 3 Nephi chapter 27, and it's going to be verse 32. Now, right before verse 32, we get Christ talking about the joy that he has. In fact, he says his joy is full, and he talks about fullness of joy for the generation that he is currently teaching.

For he talks about how none of them will be lost. All of those that witness to him will be lost. Jesus Christ come amongst the Nephites are saved.

And then we get to his warning. Now, remember, Mormon is the one that gets to collect these records and put them together. And he puts this piece in here, and I think this is Mormon again saying here, a record of what Christ said to these people.

And if the Book of Mormon is for our day, we should heed these warnings as well. This is what 32 says. This is Christ talking.

He says, "This generation, for they are led away captive by him, even as was the son of perdition. For they will sell me for silver and for gold and for that which moth doth corrupt and which thieves can break through and steal. And in that day will I visit them, even in turning their works upon their own heads." My friends, don't sell out.

Now, what are the ways that we sell out when it comes to the gospel of Jesus Christ? Well, we can flat out sell it to silver and gold, right? We opt to have the shiny object syndrome of sorts in our lives.

We tend to go after the pursuit of the financials and the abundance in our lives in a secular way. But it's interesting, what other ways? What are things that moth can corrupt?

Well, those are the tangible things in our lives. Houses can eventually become corrupted. They can become so old and decrepit that they fall apart.

Our cars could do that, right? In fact, the things that thieves could break through and steal, Christ is talking about our obsession with the tangibles in our lives. And he's saying those things are distractions.

Don't sell out to those things. Embrace the gospel of Jesus Christ. Adopt faith and repentance in our lives.

Go through the process of baptism and have the Holy Ghost lead us through our lives. These are the principles that Christ is leaving with the Nephites before he goes. And it is a warning for us as well.

The Book of Mormon was written for our day. Don't give in to the things around us, and we will be able to see through the things that we could sell out and instead reach a fullness of joy with Jesus Christ side by side. That's all for today, my friends.

Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass. Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow, and I hope you are too.
