In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life, and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.

Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me, and know that I'm cheering for your every success. How do you respond to the Savior's invitation to "Come unto me"?

Welcome to day 298 on our 365-day journey through the Book of Mormon together. Today, you're going to be reading 3 Nephi chapter 12, verses 17 through 40. And inside of it, we get an invitation from the Savior.

In fact, chapter 12, I think I counted six times. Maybe it's more, maybe it's less. It's not specifically about the number, but we get this repeated invitation from the Savior.

Remember, this is just the intro to the people of the Book of Mormon. And here the Savior invites them: "Come unto me, come unto me, come unto me." It's worth our time and our reflection to dive in and see what it means for us to respond to the Savior's invitation to "Come unto me." Now, we're also going to get inside of these verses what we kind of refer to as Jesus bringing in the Higher Law. And what he's going to do is he's going to say, "Hey, you're familiar with the Law of Moses here." I want to encourage you to look at it through this lens here.

And he introduces some new commandments or living the commandments in a higher way, so to speak. Before we get into those verses, I want to dive into our verse for today. It's 3 Nephi chapter 12, verse 19.

It says: "And behold, I have given you the law and the commandments of my Father, that ye shall believe in me, and that ye shall repent of your sins, and come unto me with a broken heart and a contrite spirit. Behold, ye have the commandments before you, and the law is fulfilled." Hear that invitation again to "Come unto me." And just a few days ago, we had the invitation to dive in to what a broken heart and a contrite spirit means for you as you sought to have the Spirit in your life teach you those things. I love that this is the front end of Christ's teachings as he brings in the Higher Law.

It's an invitation to believe in Him, repent of your sins, come unto Him with a broken heart and a contrite spirit, and then do the things. I'd encourage you today to look at this Higher Law and see what actions could be improved in your life. As I looked at it, there's a few verses here that I thought, "Wow, Allen, there's some places here that you can continue to increase your ability to live the Higher Law." I think this is a really interesting invitation as my daughter has been talking about her mission experiences when we get an opportunity to talk to her.

And one of the things that they repeatedly come up to is the challenge of attending church as people get used to engaging in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. One of the challenges they face is coming to church on a regular basis. It's a really good example of taking those actions to follow the commandments that Christ has given us.

Going to church is one of those. And I see as she continues to wrestle with different ways to help people understand and buy in: they have a desire to follow Jesus Christ, but now they need to take the actions and do the things that actually show that you're following Jesus Christ. My friends, what actions, what steps do you and I need to take to increase and show the Lord that we truly are responding to His invitation to "Come unto me"?

That's all for today, my friends. Remember that, by small and simple things are great things brought to pass. Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow, and I hope you are too.
