Show Notes

Allen Roberds explores Samuel the Lamanite's prophecy in Helaman 14:3, where a sign of Christ's coming is a night without darkness, appearing as day. This episode reflects on Jesus Christ as the ultimate light, challenging listeners to identify and invite more spiritual light into their lives and radiate it to others.

Key Points

  • Samuel the Lamanite prophesied a unique sign of Christ's coming: a night before His arrival where there would be no darkness, appearing as if it were day.
  • Jesus Christ is profoundly symbolized as light, and actively following Him inevitably brings spiritual light into one's personal life.
  • Listeners are prompted to consider what 'having light' truly looks like in their own lives and contemplate ways to increase its presence.
  • Allen shares personal examples of activities that bring light into his life, such as fostering connections in businesses, engaging in family activities, daily scripture study, and regular temple attendance.
  • The more deeply Jesus Christ is integrated into your life, the greater capacity you will have to both receive and shine light in the world.

The more light you have, the more Jesus Christ can be in there. And I may invert that, too. The more you have Jesus Christ in your life, the more light you can shine as well.

In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth, and in the same sentence offers a warning that savorless salt is good for nothing. Join me in an attempt to be savory salt as I share each day one verse of scripture and one small thought. Perhaps this small daily emphasis can lead to greater savor in your life and ultimately you and I can be savory salt.

Hello, my friends and family, wherever you're listening from. Thank you for joining me and know that I'm cheering for your every success. Welcome to day 277 on our 365 day journey through the Book of Mormon together.

Today, you're going to be reading Helaman chapter 14, verses 1 through 20. And can I just say, I love Samuel's teachings. Samuel the Lamanite has this special And so this gets me really excited.

We have a savory salt challenge for you today, and so we will dive straight into the verse and then get straight to the challenge for you. Because once again, if savory salt is not changing who you are, then are we really getting a little more savory in our lives? I hope that it's changing me for the better, and I hope you're finding that as well.

Our verse for today is one of my favorites when it comes to connecting Jesus Christ. And it comes from Helaman 14:3. And this is Samuel prophesying, he says, 'And behold, this will I give unto you for a sign at the time of his coming.

For behold, there shall be great lights in heaven, insomuch that in the night before he cometh there shall be no darkness, insomuch that it shall appear unto man as if it was day.' Jesus Christ is light. Following Jesus Christ brings light into your life. The challenge for you is to sit down and consider what is having light look like in your life.

As I think about those things and bringing light or shining light in my life, here's a few things that come to mind for me. I love helping teams in businesses connect. I love watching employees that are in a business go from kind of just working with each other to actually connecting with each other and becoming human beings together because at a lot of businesses that doesn't happen.

I love that. And that is light that comes in my life. I love family activities, whether it's my immediate family with my girls and my wife, or whether it's with extended family.

I love family activities because we can get together and we can feel the Spirit together. I love reading the scriptures. It has become something that I look forward to every day, especially as I've recorded these savory salt episodes now on day 277.

I love diving in because the scriptures give me light and I love going to the temple. Temple visits bring light in my life, and I'm personally right now trying to increase the repetitions in which I go to the temple, my frequency at which I'm able to go. In fact, my daughter just last week, she gave me a text message out of nowhere that said, 'Dad, I need to go to the temple as quick as possible.' And at first I was a little alarmed and I text back.

I said, 'Is everything okay?' 'Are you all right?' She said, 'Yes, I'm fine. I just feel like I need to get there.' And so we set up an appointment. The only time available was on a Thursday morning at 5 a.m. in the morning. 5:15 was our appointment.

We had to be there at 4:55. What does light look like in your life? The more light you have, the more Jesus Christ can be in there.

And I may invert that, too. The more you have Jesus Christ in your life, the more light you can shine as well. I love this symbol from Samuel the Lamanite and the symbol that Heavenly Father gave us when Jesus Christ was born that there was no darkness in the land at all.

What a beautiful reminder for us as we seek to have Christ in our life. May light flood your every aspect of life is my wish for you. That's all for today, my friends.

Remember that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass. Keep it small, keep it simple, and always seek to be savory salt. I'll be here tomorrow, and I hope you are too.
